The historic Gallatin City Hotel is one of the oldest standing hotels in Montana at 148 years old. The hotel is just one of three structures remaining of Gallatin City in what is now Missouri Headwaters State Park. The original city was abandoned when the steamboats stopped coming up the Missouri River from Fort Benton.
Traveling on the 89S towards Yellowstone, turn left on Mill Creek Road and follow it approximately 18 miles to the Passage Creek Trailhead. The falls are a beautiful 2.5 mile hike through a burn area from a 2007 fire. There are tons of snags but the wildflowers and smaller growth have taken over what was once a dense pine forest. Getting down to the falls is a bit of a scree scramble, but the beauty is worth the effort. #waterlust #waterfalls #Montana
This view of one of the three Spanish Lakes makes for a great #troverdetour. The 8 mile (2700 ft elevation gain) hike is intense but obviously worth it. Follow Spanish Creek all the way up the mountain from the trailhead just off the 191.
Remarkable views like this one at Twin Outlets scatter the Beaten Path trail in Montana. The Beaten Path is a 26 mile hike that takes you from Cooke City to Rosebud, MT. As one of the prettiest hikes in the country, the Beaten Path takes you up and down a summit along cascades, 10+ waterfalls, granite canyons, and so many lakes that some of them don't have names.
