The building was really nice, the room was quite underwhelming compared to fewer star hotels I’ve stayed in, in Japan. Bed was hard as a rock and AC didn’t work.

Stayed here for one night on 1/27/26 and had a delightful stay. The Fujiya Hotel was expansive and had a lot of history and story. Our room was delightful as we stayed at the Forest Wing with a beautiful view. However, the beds were okay, just felt stiff and not as comfortable as expected. Since we chose the Forest Wing, the walk from the front desk to the room is a little bit far, but it’s okay. Their hotel is lovely to explore as they have a museum at the flower palace, a chapel, pool and then a garden right behind the main building. They offered complimentary amenities such as rest area that serves unlimited soft drinks and hot coffee. We did not use the onsen, however since the bathroom is supplied with hot water from the hot spring, I used my bathtub as a good way to relax in the water. All the staff was professional and kind and provided the utmost high quality guest service. Very friendly and are attentive to making sure their guests have a pleasant stay. The location was good to go see the open air museum. They provide complimentary van shuttle to take you from the hotel to the nearby train station. The difficulty I faced was since I didn’t had a Japanese phone number, I could not contact the hotel for a shuttle to come back when I arrived back at the train station. Instead, I used GO taxi app which was sufficient. Overall, if I were to come back to visit Hakone, I would stay more than 1 night here next time at the Fujiya Hotel and explore their other rooms.

Everything was great except the bed was not comfotable - stiff and lumpy.

The property is dated and worn. Stains on carpets and very small rooms, but it is close to the station and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was so-so.
