We’re used to staying at eco-friendly and design focused places on Portugal’s country side and were really looking forward to this stay but it unfortunately left us disappointed. The lemon lodge did not live up to our expectations, based on their website, story, pictures, other reviews and price level.
The tent itself is primitive but nice, but the surroundings don’t seem well taken care off, and far from the pictures showed on the website. A few examples:
- Lack of attention to details on-site, facilities dirty or broken, trash left on site (bags, water plastic cans etc)
- The claim of “eco-friendly” feels superficial. There’s no sorting of trash, no waste-water management and water from both the shower and sink runs straight out into nature with liquids, chemicals and whatever guests might have polluting nature straight outside. The products provided on-site are from Portugal’s main supermarket’s low price range - and not from local, Portuguese sustainable sources which we would expect from a place claiming “eco-friendly”.
- We expected a farmland, but in fact there’s only a very small basic patch of a garden
It’s an OK place if you want to stay off-grid close by Aljezur, but I think expectations must be managed better leaving less discrepancy between the story/pictures, price level and the actual place. This is not a rant about Lemon Lodge, and hope that the owners only see it as points of improvement.
