Top Atami Hotel Reviews

Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU
10/10 Excellent
"The food selection was amazing and when our A/C didn’t work in one of our rooms, they quickly relocated us to another set of rooms, with a beautiful view and massage chairs! The kids loved it!"

La Vista Atami Terrace
4/10 Poor
"Overall, the stay was disappointing. On the positive side, the onsen was lovely and the attendant on the ladies side was very helpful. That said, nothing is available until 3 and you have to rush to make an on-site reservation for the open air area after 3 (there was not an option to reserve prior to 3). The front desk staff provided inconsistent information on check in and was initially unhelpful in storing luggage that did not fit in the automated storage machine. Bottom line, do not arrive prior to the stated check-in time. Additionally, the room was on par with a low cost motel. The beds were very hard and the pillows flat ( only 1 per bed provided). The shower was a pre-fab very small stall that looked like a mobile home shower. The balcony, though advertised as ocean view, overlooked a bus parking lot and busy street with a view of the water behind the noisy areas. The balcony and tub on the balcony were likewise very small. The room and facilities were simply not worth the price point. If you are looking for a higher end stay in Atami, look elsewhere."

Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora by IHG
8/10 Good
"The property is pretty remote. Make sure you time your Shinkansen with the hotel shuttles of your can find yourself waiting a long time. We took a taxi to the hotel which was 7200Y. Loved the public onsen and the private onsen. Breakfast and Dinner were not great for the price you are paying so we opted to eat off property instead"

Hakone Kowakien
10/10 Excellent
"Our stay at Hakone Kowakien was wonderful. Just to clarify we stay in the Hakone Kowakien Hotel. (Not the Ten-yu) I notice there were mix up of reviews when I was researching the hotel before our trip. The area around the hotel are breathtaking and the grounds beautiful. They are doing some work outside of the dining area while we were there so the windows are covered up and you don’t get a view while you are eating. We opted for breakfast and dinner during our stay. They had a good variety of food to choose from. I find I had a hard time trying everything because I get full long before that. It is a buffet so it does feel a bit chaotic and cafeteria like. But it worked well for us as a family. My son can eat whatever he likes. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the mountains and trees. It was a nice change of scenery after spending 5 nights in the middle of Tokyo. The rooms are minimal but clean and in great condition. We enjoyed the Onsen on the roof. I find it was a great way to wake up in the morning and wished I had stay longer to enjoy it. We also booked a private bath. For ¥2500 I highly recommend it if you are shy. We also made use of the pass to Yunessun. We only went to the part where you wear a bathing suit. Over all we enjoyed it. The change room and showers were clean. The pools are a little hit and miss. It has definitely passed its prime. It is worth a go if the hotel gives you free passes to go there but I would not pay much to go in otherwise."

Hakone Ashinoko Hanaori(ORIX HOTELS & RESORTS)
10/10 Excellent
"This hotel was amazing. 5 out of 5 stars, only a 2 minute convenient walk from the bus station, and the amenities were incredible. We stayed in a room that had a private onsen, which was very romantic for my husband and I’s stay. Along with the open air hot springs, the amenities here were amazing. The hotel included complimentary breakfast and dinner buffets which were delicious! Will definitely be back when in Japan again!"

The Fujiya Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"I felt completely at ease from the moment I arrived, as I was treated with the utmost courtesy. The restaurants and bars were elegant yet welcoming, and with many international staff members working at reception, the bell desk and in the restaurants, language barriers are unlikely to be an issue. It seemed that over half the guests were from overseas, and I imagine they thoroughly enjoyed their stay as well. I had stayed here before the major refurbishment, and at the time my impression was simply that it was rather old (though I assumed that was to be expected of a classic hotel). This time, however, the historic building has been beautifully preserved, with meticulous maintenance ensuring it is spotlessly clean. Furthermore, the antique furniture appears to have had its cushions and upholstery reupholstered, making it both visually appealing and comfortable. The hot spring facilities were spacious and comfortable, complete with a sauna and a cold plunge bathtub; I was surprised to find that the hot spring water was even piped directly into the bathroom in my room. I would certainly like to stay here again."

PEARL STAR HOTEL ATAMI
6/10 Okay
"Breakfast dishes in the trays were not hot, almost cold. Good selection of foods but worrisome that not up to temperature Rooms although nice, a bit noisy . You can hear neighbors foot’s steps and someone using a digital keyboard constantly… very annoying. Also the onsen (hot tub) was not hot. Had to ask the staff to turn up the temperature… The Wagyu restaurant was very disappointing , since did not have a reservation, they seated us in a corner ( thought we were in time out) facing a wall … even though they were regular tables available…"

"Excellent property - beautiful setting."

Hakone Yutowa
10/10 Excellent
"Great location, easy flat walk from both Gora and Chokokunomori stations. Great amenities with complementary drinks, snacks and other things. Lovely shared spaces to enjoy and the room size was large by Japan's standards. The hotel is older and this shows a little in some areas but very clean and overall it was a very comfortable stay."
