We found the hotel to be rather old and the room air felt very musty and there was a cigarette smell coming from the air conditioning. The bathroom needs to be fully refurbished. One of the bath towel had a big hole in it. The hotel staff do not speak much English and we had difficulty finding the swimming pool due to lack of English communication.
It has a 4 star rating but does not live up to its rating. Rather disappointed.
It appears to be a five star hotel, a grand exterior and lobby, it ends there, check-in was cumbersome, slow and inattentive, at 2PM there was only one of the two rooms I reserved ready, then in a hurry, they scrambled a room for me, I found out it was a room for disabled person, (and I am not a disabled man). I beared with it, but almost slipped in the shower, since the bathroom is designed for wheel chair user that shower while sitting, I did get a standard room the following two nights. The lights are dim so it feels depressing even while all lights were turned on.
Not much in the immediate neighborhood.
Very dirty - carpets, corridor, chairs, tables, beds, toilets etc are so broken and old to be humanely recommendable. Room sells, so does the whole hotel. It is smoke-filled filthy, though smoking is already banned in Beijing.
It is not cheap and with the same sort of price, one can easily find a much better hotel. It claims to be a 4 star and even 5 - star as displayed in its reception. That is totally misleading! It is not even a 2 star hotel. In fact, it is hard to call it a hotel as it is located in a office building and even the taxi driver could not find it.
The staff except the luggage staff are rude and unhelpful. It is the most low efficiency hotel, whereas in Beijing hotel staffs are usually very efficient.
The hotel's restaurant is so dirty, the chairs are so dirty and broken to sit on. It does not have a menu, only laminated sheets.
Such a filthy experience never again!
Arrived at hotel, staff did not speak English, eventually found one that did. Had to ask for assistance to get our bags to our room. Found carpet dirty and in poor condition, but reception staff either did not understand or did not care. Bed very hard.
Unsure how Wotif pick their secret hotels, but they need to read the guest reviews as we found other reviews similar to ours. Hotel looks grand, but that is all and we would give it less than 3 stars. Staff very unhelpful, but walked around looking important. Quick to chastise us for lying on lounge while waiting to go to airport.
Don't waste your money and ruin your holiday in this hotel. Really drty carpet, run down wash room, weak aircon and inadequate lighting. Ask to change another room - the reply was they are all the same; and indeed its true. This hotel is filled with local tour groups; swimming pool and gym are open to the local membership. The younger receptionist are generally more friendly and willing; but there is really not much they can do.
Nice hotel, close to tourist attractions.
It is reasonable rate yet the hotel provides a lot luxury and services.

A decent hotel next to Panjiayuan Station.
The mattress was one of the hardest I'd slept on, the carpet was dirty and the bathroom had patches of mould. The room itself was big and the water pressure in the shower was great. The service was good and all the people at reception spoke English.

It was ok, but the carpets need changing. Other than that the facility is nice, but the carpets made it not so good. The bed was a bit hard too. I got a chance to stay in two rooms because I was moved and it was the same
NO WIRELESS IN ROOMS, Despite the name this hotel IS NOT ON CHANG AN BLVD.but in the south east part of the city. Bit distant from subway, no nearby restaurants, Next to giant "antiques " mall.
Satisfied with the service, enjoy the stay here =]
The hotel is a 5-10mins walk from the subway.

First time in BJ
ChangAn was a Grand Hotel maybe two decades ago. No worthy sites within walking distance from hotel. Wasted time in traffic jam as the hotel is far from major BJ sight seeing locations. Neighborhood is a working class, felt unsure but didn't experience any problem at all. Stayed in two rooms because of the packaged tour for three nights but we added two nights before the tour to start so we would have more time in BJ. Front desk speaks little English and not attentive. Rooms were comfortable but had issues with shower head, hot water pot air-cond. Had to change one room after they couldn't repair AC the second time.
Breakfast (included with tour) was good but crowded due to InterInternational study group. Nice mix of Western and Chinese choices. But had a few dinners at some restaurants just east of the hotel. Wifi was good but must ask for a wireless router.Did not try other hotel amenities.
Wouldn't recommend for first timer in BJ.
Ligger i bra område, kan dock vara svårt att få taxi tidig morgon

a grand hotel had it's glory days.
it is a grand looking hotel, it had it's glory days, age has caught up with it, a little renovation will help a lot. I wonder where the slippers were, they are almost a ubiquitous item in all hotels in china, after two days stay and not seeing them, it makes me wonder if it is cost saving measure or simply a negligence on the service personnel, little things tell a great deal of a hotel's operation philosophy.
Good location, near the famous antique market known as panjiayuan, and the subway station is right around the corner. Good mom & pop restaurants near by with good food.
I stayed in the hotel's executive room on 24th floor, and this room has the largest bed I've ever seen! at least 2 meters wide, and the general condition was ok due to wear and tear for a long period. But the service on the executive floor is non-existant, and the executive lounge was locked up and fridge was locked up for use outside hours. and there was really nothing inside the lounge either.

good place to be for a week in Beijing.
We were there for a week while on a tour of China. The hotel was nice and clean, and the lobby was impressive. The room was spacious and clean. There was free wifi in the lobby that was pretty good, but sometimes you had to walk around to get a good signal. People at the desk were helpful and spoke fair English. We had no problem communicating our needs, and they always called a taxi for us without any delay. The room was dimly lit, it would have been nice if the bedside lamps were bright enough to read by. There were nicks in the wood in the vanity and doors, and the grout in the tiles in the bathroom, both on the floor, and in the shower were discolored. They weren't dirty, but could have used a re-do. Shower curtain was very clean. The bedding was nice and liked the duvets on top of the beds. The beds were very hard though. The grout around the tile in the bathroom vanity was smeared with what looked like black ink or something (the vanity was black, so it probably was a repair), but it was clean. Clean was what was important to me, and it was clean, but they didn't do much to repair the small things that make you feel like you were in a 4 star hotel. There was no smell of smoke, which I appreciated.
