The origin of the name is unknown, but there are records of an ancient feast called the “Cobb Ale Feast”. With a length of 870 feet the curve of the Cobb forms a fine promenade though its upper surface slopes to the sea at an appreciable angle. Its high wall makes it a double promenade and walkers have a choice of shelter or a glorious blow.

Quiet and peaceful

We spent a week at Cowdea. Valerie is a lovely host and it was a pleasure to meet her. We had a lovely stay with all the apple trees fruiting and nosing at the hedgerow berries. The weather was lovely and we took advantage of the enclosed garden which was perfectly safe for the dog. We enjoyed eating and relaxing in the garden. (Maybe a small bird feeder would be a nice addition to the garden. So that we could see the small birds). We always do a small online shop to be delivered shortly after our check in. We would recommend this as there isn’t a local (walkable) shop near by. (After a long journey, a small welcome pack of tea/coffee and some milk would have been greatly appreciated). The kitchen is nicely equipped with the basics for holiday cooking. We walked to Shave Cross inn for their Wednesday quiz night (first Wednesday of the month). It was also curry night. The quiz was good fun and the dessert was deliciously homemade (rhubarb, apple and blackberry crumble). This property is a nice base for exploring west Dorset.

Located in a rural setting which was lovely for peace and quiet.

Located in a rural setting which was lovely for peace and quiet. Has a beautiful view, which you can enjoy sitting in the conservatory. Nights are nice and dark - no light pollution - great for star gazing. It was ideal for my dog, with your own enclosed garden plot, plus you have use of a grassed field to walk your dog. The only negatives are that the shower water doesn’t drain quick enough and the tray starts to fill up; so you’re showering constantly keeping an eye on the water as to not overflow, also the bathroom tap could do with replacing as it sprays water directly at you. Saying this though, it didn’t spoil my visit and I would stay again.
