Running Bear on Fort Creek

  • Directly located on beautiful Fort Creek, Running Bear is about as close as you can get to Crater Lake National Park. Complete with WiFi, waterfront access, and proximity to Crater Lake, Running Bear is the perfect summer getaway.

    Note: Running Bear is a Duplex which shares a wall and a backyard with Soaring Eagle. The full duplex (Running Bear and Soaring Eagle) is available for rent as well.

    Note: Minors are NOT ALLOWED. All guests must be 18+ years old. This is a hard rule. Any guests who try to sneak minors past will be asked to leave immediately and will not be refunded for their booking.

    Disclosure: There are thee outdoor security cameras installed on the property. One monitors the front entrance to the property, one on the side, and the last that monitors the backyard. There are no cameras inside the home.

The house and property were represented well. House was very clean and comfortable.There were lots of basic staples in the pantry. The creek behind the house was lovely. I was very grateful the property owners had mosquito spray available because as the sun was starting to go down, the mosquitoes were coming out.The property is very close to crater Lake. Which made visiting the national Park really enjoyable. We also took an additional day to go check out the lava beds, which weren’t too far away from the house. There is not much around the property as far as getting supplies/groceries. Plan on bringing your own or driving to Klamath to get food to prepare on property. There was a casino about 20 minutes away that had a restaurant. The restaurant was just OK. There are two very small, mini markets close by, but didn’t have much to choose from and their hours were very limited.

Place to stay

This duplex is indeed the place to stay. It feels remote with a creek in back yet it is a bit south of Crater Lake on 62 so in between two restaurants that serve good food. There are also little grocery stores nearby that have supplies for cooking. What a lovely get away spot!

I loved my stay here and found the home had everything I needed and more. The kitchen was very well stocked, there was plenty of room to spread out, and the bed was very comfortable. I work remotely and was able to work from here as well. There were a few brief electricity/WiFi interruptions, but everything came back quickly. The well water is discolored and has a bit of a smell, though it didn’t bother me for showering or laundry. The owners provide a filtered water dispenser for drinking and cooking, which was appreciated. The guidebook provided had info for a massage therapist nearby, and I cannot recommend her enough. Definitely get a massage with Kim! The creek behind the property was my favorite part. It was so relaxing to sit by for meals, work, or to unwind. I loved watching the beavers and ducks. Stargazing was also wonderful. It’s close to the south entrance of Crater Lake National Park, though the East Rim is currently closed for construction, so sites on the east side are still about a 1.5-hour drive away. The duplex walls are quite thin, so I could hear the guests next door moving around, but they were quiet and respectful. The creek also connects to a resort next door, and children occasionally came onto the property to play and were quite loud. I could see this being a privacy/safety consideration for solo travelers, though I personally stayed aware of my surroundings and never felt unsafe. Overall, I felt very comfortable here and would happily stay again.

The place was clean and bed comfortable. There was a nice place outside beside the water. But besides that, the outside area was overgrown. The reason for the lower review is because the water had a orangey brown color to it. The shower was stained with it and we would not get in it or felt comfortable to use any of the water. So we left a day early so we could get showers somewhere else.

Fantastic location, cute and comfy interior, exterior is not being maintained

My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary trip to Crater Lake. We arrived in the evening. Check-in was easy, the place was immediately inviting. We loved the interior, and the location was perfect - tons to do in that area! BUT, the negative is the exterior did not appear to be maintained at all. There were tall weeds all around the exterior of the house and overgrowing the sidewalk. The landscaping looked nothing like the well manicured pictures in the photo listing. There was a wasp nest in the siding of the house, and my husband was stung when grilling (after dark - it was a n active hive!) While we understand this is a rural setting, the area immediately around the house should be trimmed and maintained to avoid insects building nests near the house. There was also a stagnant pond on the property making the mosquito pressure unbearable in the evening. In summary - great interior, great location, horrible outdoor experiences. The place has great potential if the yard is brought back under control. In its given state, however, it was nowhere worth the cost - not even given its location. I hope they clean up the yard - if so, the place could be a real gem.

Beautiful getaway

We loved this property with the creek in the back and all the chairs outside. It was so relaxing. Inside was very clean and everything you need in the kitchen. Water bottles included. Thank you!

What more could I ask for?

Kayaking on a stream right out the back door? Yep. AC that works? Yep. Full amenities for everything you could need? Yep. A surprisingly comfortable bed? Yep. Overall a great spot.... My wife and I had an awesome time. Anyone on the fence whether or not to stay here, just do it and quit looking.

Everything is just fine except for one thing

The only problem is one cannot turn off AC, not even change the set temperature. I was freezing most of the time even with all the vents closed and had to open a window to let some warmth in which is waste of energy of course. All the rest was just excellent
