"The Verandah is excellent value in Udaipur. We booked a king size room with a balcony overlooking the lake. The views were wonderful. The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was good with hot water for the shower. The restaurant was good and the breakfast including the coffee which was excellent. The location is ideal for visiting the city's key sites, many in walking distance or a short auto rickshaw drive away. It is located in an area that cars cannot access so you have to plan to use a rickshaw to reach the property. The staff were the highlight however. Pretty much everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Nimmi at reception was a particular standout. She was cheerful and helpful on every occassion. Overall highly recommend this property!"

"Remember it’s 200 years old. Although this hotel is part of the maharaja’s Palace it is not in the category of a Taj or Shangri-La hotel. Once you have adjusted your expectations you will enjoy this experience. Rahul Paliwal manager at Shiv Niwas Palace Udaipur is worthy of special note. He understood my dilemma of comparing other 5 star hotels to his. He offered to upgrade our stay from Room 10 with mountain views and private terrace to room 6. A very palatial palace suite with study, formal entry, separate sitting room with huge walkin dressing room with very good lake views. Once we experienced this room we felt blessed. If you want to experience living with the current Maharaja and his family and gain a knowledge of life in a palace 400 years ago then you should spoil yourself. "

"Room was dirty, bathroom had mold and was very dirty bedding was also not clean. We booked a suite to sleep four two of the beds were very dirty bed mats with stains on them. Paint peeling, this property is nothing like the description or pictures posted online. The property also has many mosquitoes. The property is just a run down place that needs to be renovated and modernized. It is also located in an undesirable part of town"
