“We were expecting a well maintained, boutique hotel, sadly it was not. Although refurbished in Nov 2014, the state of our room (1) lacked maintenance. Although each was relatively minor, when 10 issues are present, then the result is a disappointment. I relayed these to the receptionist on departure, and she seemed reluctant to seriously acknowledge the problem. This summed up the general feeling of laissez-faire.”

“Easy to find, clear instructions regarding keys, etc.. Not a huge amount of things nearby, apart from the nice beach. Perhaps a bit expensive for what it is, but in the summer the easier access to the beach must be a plus.”

“We had a great room with balcony overlooking the sea which we took advantage of in the sun! The bathroom was clean and modern. All the staff were friendly and helpful especially the head housekeeper who found us an extra chair for the bedroom! The breakfast was tasty with a good choice. The bar staff were good although could do with some practice with making cocktails! Great central location for walking to shops and restaurants.”

“Winterstoke is a HUGE house with 4 massive double bedrooms and a large twin room. This does not feel like a holiday rental, it feels like a home. I have never stayed in a property that is so well appointed, every detail is covered. The quality of the house is really fantastic and incredibly comfortable. The back garden is lovely with a great area for entertaining, unfortunately it was freezing so we could not make use of it. We had a baby with us and the owner (sheila) had EVERYTHING……

“We were very lucky to get a parking spot as it was just on the road at the front of the building. Breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately the en-suite consisted of toilet and shower only - the wash hand basin was in the bedroom where there were no towel rails. The gentleman who greeted us was excellent as he had to do everything including cooking the breakfasts due to his manager being unwell.”

“Probably the nicest room we have stayed in despite spending 2 or 3 times more per night on other trips. Lovely spacious room in period property with exposed beams, brickwork and proper 4 poster bed. The quality of the renovation, and in particular the ornate marble/granite work in the bathroom, was exceptional. Add in a warm freindly welcome and it rates in the top handful of all time great stays.”
