"I have stayed here a few times over the years and, while it has always felt somewhat dated, the location has always been ideal for visiting family. During my most recent stay, parts of the hotel appeared to be undergoing refurbishment, which I hoped would improve the overall experience.
Unfortunately, the stay was disappointing. The check-in staff were rude and unhelpful, which did not create a welcoming first impression. Although the bedroom itself was reasonably clean, the bathroom was in a very poor condition — old, dirty, and clearly in need of renovation. The shower barely worked and was little more than a drip.
There were also no signs advising guests not to drink the tap water. In desperation I did drink it, and unfortunately I was unwell throughout the night afterwards. No bottled water was provided in the room either, just a basic kettle and a few sachets of coffee.
It is such a lovely location, which makes the lack of cleanliness and overall upkeep even more disappointing. I was not expecting luxury — simply somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep and freshen up — but sadly this stay fell far below even those basic expectations. Regrettably, I would not choose to stay here again."
