We had a great time at the guest house. We walked in all directions and were able to see interesting sites everywhere. The people are so friendly stopping us in the street to help us several times. We rode bikes (available for rent at the guest house) one day from the guest house through small local streets. Wide variety of food choices. Although a little difficult for a strict vegetarian, we made do. Otherwise the food is fantastic.. Highly recommended.
One note there are several Ebisu guest houses in the area so make sure your taxi driver takes you to the right place.
It's very clean and quiet. Room size and living condition is great. However, didn't see the laundry basket for used towels.

It’s mostly fine!
For people travelling on a budget, this place is fine. It’s a short bus ride from the nearest station (the bus system is really simple - you get on at the rear door and pay at the end of your trip by either tapping your card or paying with yen. It’s a fixed price all over Kyoto for ¥250) and about 30mins to the city centre. It’s also very close to a popular sento (like an onsen) which was fun to visit! However, the hallways had bags of rubbish and dirty linen piled up for the majority of our stay, and even though Hotels.com said we had paid the booking in full, they left a note asking us to pay an extra fee for tax (¥2400). We didn’t mind paying, but it did feel a little weird, especially because our booking summary explicitly states tax was included in the booking price. Aside from that, the beds were comfortable enough, the place was clean enough inside the room, there’s a nearby 7/11 and lots of cute shrines. I also really recommend visiting a nearby cafe called Togenkyo (about an 8 minute walk) for delicious food, coffee, and hot cocoa.
hard to find, couldn't give direction to driver. tv was a computer monitor.no utinsils for cooking. worst lodging i stayed at in 30 days in china and japan.
It was much more roomy and being in a quiet neighborhood compared to other hotels. It was not close to the train station but there were a lot of bus stops near by. The supermarket was in a couple minutes walk which was really nice since we have a baby with us. We were little bit of scared of letting her crawl since we found couple staplers on the floor. Other than that it was great!
We arrived at Karasuma Station about 2pm. We took the metro to Imadegawa Station and walked from there to the apartment. It was not too long a walk but you could take a bus, there are lots around. When we got to Ebisu it was easy to check in and we were able to take the room immediately. It was a spacious apartment compared to the small hotel rooms we're used to in Japan. It had TV, washing machine, cooker, etc. but no utensils or pans for cooking. We made noodles sometimes, but ate out mostly. The local sushi bar was one of our favourites. They're was lots of information at Ebisu about buses for sightseeing, which we made full use of, and when we left it was a short walk to the bus for Kyoto Station. Ebisu also had bikes which you can use for free if you're feeling energetic, which is a very nice bonus. We liked Kyoto a lot. Although very busy and a real tourist hot spot, they're is lots to see. Ebisu is not in the centre of town, but had good transport links that make it a cheap alternative for staying in cool Kyoto!
