Excellent machiya stay!
Staying in Hershey’s machiya was amazing! It was a great experience and was very spacious for our group of 4. We loved the traditional aspects like the tatami mats, the table in the dining room, with indoor and outdoor slippers provided. We also enjoyed the outdoor tub, which was very clean. Having a washer was also very helpful, as it was about halfway through our trip. We did have a little trouble with it, as it seems the instructions in the binder may have been for a different model, but we eventually figured it out. I also think an instruction sheet could be added for the indoor and outdoor tubs. We were able to figure out how to turn the water on with Google translate, but it might be helpful for guests in the future! Also, Hershey sent excellent instructions for getting to the rental and instructions in English and Japanese, so if you had to communicate with a taxi/GO driver, they knew exactly how to go. Overall, we had an excellent stay and would absolutely book again if we visited Kyoto again with a small group of friends.
