Total Disregard for Guests
The location was amazing and the apartment would have been great had it not been for the stink caused by plumbing issues. When we arrived we could smell a slightly unpleasant odour. after coming back from a walk and dinner the smell was terrible. We informed the owners that we felt they had a plumbing problem and they should send a plumber to fix the faulty trap in the in the ensuite bathroom. They asked if we had checked the drain in the shower, we told them we had not even used that shower because the stench was so bad. The owner then agreed to send a cleaner who simply masked the smell. We had checked the shower and the floor wasn't wet. We let the owner know that the smell had only been masked. They said that the tide caused the smell. We discoverd the only way we could control the smell was to run the water in the shower every 3-4 hours to fill the trap. If we left the unit for more than 4-5 hours the smell was horrible. We had to get up 2-3 times a night to run water in the shower to prevent the smell from returning. we were all suffering with headaches and nausea. We asked again for a plumber and they refused. We asked to be relocated, they refused. We asked for a reduction in our rate they refused. we asked VRBO to provide a resolution/refund and they made a lame excuse about their IT systems not integrating. We did not have the money to just walk away and find another place, both Algarve Vacation Rentals and VRBO let us down. Stay away from both of these companies.
