We would also like to highlight the excellent service and attention received at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, which made this experience even more memorable.
The place had dirty dishes and clear smell of a mildewy carpet. The location is fantastic as it’s right on the mountain

Great location if you want to ski. Very remedial in terms of staffing and amenities but the location is beyond convenient. Overall it was great, there’s just no housekeeping.

old property, but convenience and slopes access overrides complaints ) Loved the stay, great service team either
Loved coming during the off season! Even though most of the restaurants in the area were closed, it was peaceful and not crowded.
Room was clean, decently sized, and it was quiet, even with the circus in town.
Convenient - but be aware that the hotel rooms don’t have assigned indoor parking - just outdoor. A bit dated and basic but comfortable and convenient for Kirkwood skiing.

I stayed in a unit with a small kitchen which was great to have as most restaurants are closed during summer. The only places open were the general store and Kirkwood Inn.

Granted, it’s “off season” however:
• There are virtually no facilities available on the area (restaurants, stores, bike/fishing rental etc etc.
• the room was great for a college kid coming up to ski for the weekend with his buddies. The room was small, dark and old. The sink was plugged, the coffee machine had a broken carafe and the Murphy bed had a horrible mattress. The concierge promptly addressed the sink and carafe issues.
• it’s expensive for this class of accommodation.
• the hikes were great and the views are wonderful.
I liked being upgraded to a studio suite which had a kitchen and fireplace and many chairs.
I also liked the fitness center and sauna which I used on several occasions.
I couldn't get a coke machine after working out at the gym
though.
Booked a room with 2 queen beds and ended up with a room with a double pull down bed and a pullout sofa. It was really hot in the room, power went out a few times and the tv didn’t work. But convenient location, easy ski in and out. Way overpriced!

Good: Location is good. Inside the village. Close to the lifts. Staffs are responsive and very helpful.
Not so good: Property is old. Just in general feels outdated. We booked a studio. They use gas stoves inside the studio. Mattress is not firm enough.
There is basically no night life at all in the resort. All shops are closed, which was surprising to us. Otherwise, it is quiet and good for watching stars.
Check-in went smoothly because of the friendly and professional staff person at reception! When I called later about a problem with the cable TV (no channels) she came over promptly and fixed the problem! What a great employee! She was just about to end her shift but had time to resolve the tech problem.
Pro:
1. Super nice and helpful staffs
2. easy check-in check out process.
3. Super convenient location : 1 minute walk to the lift...
4. Convenient room items: plates, bowls, cups, dishwashing items.
Con:
1. not very noise-proof, I got woken up by next room noises in the middle of the night.
2. No comment in door place, if you want to have meals or chat with friends before or after operation hours, you can only do it in the rooms, but the rooms only have 2 chairs and a small table.

For the off season visitor this may not be the place to stay. There weren't a lot of staff around. There was nothing open, no restaurants or shops. Drive carefully as there are a lot of potholes. The room we stayed in was dated.
On the plus side it was not crowded and very quiet. There was one other occupant on the we floor. And pretty no one was around. For memorial day weekend last minute plans it was not expensive. The area around Kirkwood is extremely beautiful.
If you want dining, you have to go to Caples Resort (which was yummy but expensive). Or you have to drive to Meyers or Tahoe.
