Perfect house for large family or friends. Great location on the Crain canal.
A great house with plenty of room for 7 people and three dogs. Well equipped kitchen and great dinning area.
The beds are really comfy all bedrooms are spacious.
Plenty of room out side with nice sitting area.
Located on the Crain canal which is very picturesque.
Would recommend shelboure lodge..
Beautiful, spacious, grand house, but warm, welcoming and well equipped for nine of us, with two beds to spare!! Art Nouveau features - I would love to find out more about its history. It also has a serving hatch and room service bells, if you can manage to fit your butler in the boot of your car!! Laundrey and kitchen facilities.excellent.

Ideal
The house was ideal for our family holiday and the location was great, we loved watching the boats go through the locks.
Although the weather was poor we made the most of our time while staying in Argyll.
Our only comment would be the garden was not secure for the dogs.
Amazing characterful house in an absolutely awesome location
The house is packed full of character and history. It is very well kitted out and exceptionally spacious. We were a party of 9 (adults and kids) and it worked perfectly for us. There's a nice pub 5 mins walk away and the local area is fantastic. We didn't spot any Beavers at the local centre (google argyllbeavercentre) but the lochs themselves are beautiful and looking for evidence of where the beavers had been (which was plentiful!) was fascinating. Definitely pop up to the little info centre during the day to get some tips/maps (the Beavers tend to come out at dusk and dawn). We did a day trip to Arran which was stunning and we were able to picnic with tens of seals literally feet away from us (which was very surreal). The quieter beaches are off to the right when you get off the ferry at Lochranza, this is where the seal were. The road that crosses from Machrie to Brodick has some spectacular scenery. Brodick was not our cup of tea so we had an icecream at Lamlash. We also did the 2hr boat trip with Seafari (google seafari easdale). They were really friendly and informative and we saw Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Stag, Seals and all kids of other creatures. We can also recommend Carnasserie castle, which is easy to get to and free to explore. The walk to Crinan along the canal was super too and the little tea rooms at the end was great for a cup of tea, sandwich and cake! We didn't want to come home!

Annual Family Holiday
We had a very enjoyable stay at Shelburne Lodge on the Crinan Canal. It was interesting to watch the yachts go by and the locks being opened and shut by the lock keepers. We explored the surrounding area including Inveraray Jail, a distillery, a couple of Islands, walks in the forest where we saw the back end of a beaver and lots of swimming.
The lodge was well equipped and provided a comfortable stay.

Great weekend in Knapdale
We were a family party of ten, arriving from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Australia and Canada to reconnect with each and our family origins in Knapdale. We had a wonderful time. The house was capacious, well fitted-out and welcoming, as were the helpful staff. The location beside the Crinan Canal was interesting and good for early morning walks. More generally we had relatively easy access trips to Loch Awe/Kilmartin, Tarbert, and Castle Sween and Tayvallich and the scenic beauty of the area is only matched by its long history. The area generally needs to up its game in the quality and variety of light meals provided, though places like the Tayvallich Inn were just great to visit. The local hotel at Cairnbaan was a disaster for eating out. The food was ok, expensive, the service dreadful and dogs of other drinkers were allowed to wander around and under your table and one pissed on the sofa next to where we were dining. Our overseas guests, who live in rural areas, were appalled by the neglect of public health issues in eating.
The house was wonderful and pretty good value for money. We would happily go back .

Fabulous weekend
I found Shelburne Lodge by accident when contemplating what to do for my 70th birthday. It is in an area we love and the right size for three generations of family plus dogs. We had the best time, the house was perfect, weather was kind to us, and it was great for the children to see boats going through the canal. Proximity to the Cairnbaan Hotel enabled and extra couple to join us as well. Highly recommended.
Perfect house for exploring Crinan Canal. Went on a day tour to Islay as well.

Amazing house in a stunning location
Shelburne lodge is a fantastic house with many period detail features and quirky accessories throughout. The facilities are excellent and we all thoroughly enjoyed exploring the house and the grounds. The old servant call/bell system provided hours of amusement for the kids (and big kids). The house is perfectly situated for exploring a beautiful part of the country with many stunning walks and views either immediately on the doorstep or a short drive away. We would all heartily recommend this holiday home and cannot wait to return.

Idyllic spot on canal
Lovely old house. Spacious, brilliant location and and well equipped. Enjoyed having meals outside in the garden.
A lovely house in an amazing location. The house had everything we needed and was full of character. We had lots of communication from Mike which was really helpful and we loved having so many places to explore without needing to drive anywhere. Hopefully we will be back soon!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is huge and accommodated eight of us easily. It is a quirky house with many original features but has all mod cons too. The location at Lock 8 is fabulous and we enjoyed watching the boats going up and down the canal. This is a fantastic area with so much to see and do. I would recommend this property.
We had a lovely time in a great family home. Lovely location but be prepared to travel an hour or s
Great experience. Good contact beforehand. Property as described. Good wifi (!) Lovely location

Homely Accommodation in a stunning spot
We had a superb stay at Shelbourne Lodge. It was well-appointed and just the right size and facility-wise (bathrooms, dining room, lounge, kitchen) to accommodate a family of 8. The location on the canal was lovely. Loved the fact that it was an older building with a history - even an album of old photos to prove it. Lovely private garden - and some of the best pillows encountered on my travels.

Great accommodation, great area
My family and I have been to Shelbourne a few times and it’s always excellent. Plenty of space for the kids, with enough to do around (if you like going on outdoor ‘adventures’ as the kids call it). Mike, the owner, is also very nice and approachable- makes the stay that bit better!
Can thoroughly recommend staying here.

A lovely home away from home
We were only a party of 6 but there was room for plenty more due to the size of the house. All rooms large and very well furnished with both modern and period furniture. Kitchen as should be, large and well equipped, a place for all to sit and plan the day's events over breakfast. Pleasant to watch all the boats move down the locks on the canal. Lovely sitting room with a fire place.
Lochgilpead is only 2 miles away - a nice walk for those who like active rest. Great breadshop in Lochgilpead. Fishing off the peer at Tarbert is a must for the plentiful mackerel.
A wonderful relax with very helpful and responsive property owner. A must for a return visit!
We booked Shelbourne Lodge on the banks of the Crinan Canal for an extended family break and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is located on the banks of the canal and also an easy 10 minutes stroll to the nearby Cairnbaan Hotel.
The house boasts a fully equipped kitchen with everything you could need, along with dishwasher, coffee machine etc etc, located adjacent to a large dining room with huge table which is large enough for the whole group who are staying there. Comfortable lounge with wood-burner fire and large TV are also on the ground floor, along with a small double bedroom and adjacent wet floor shower room. A lovely staircase takes you up to the upper floor where there are 4 really nice bedrooms and a further 2 shower rooms. The house is situation in it's own ample grounds with plenty parking for 3 cars.
We couldn't fault the property in any way, and it was made all the better by the fantastic weather and tranquil setting of just watching the boats sail by and navigate the locks.
Would certainly return if we're looking for another weekend of peace!

A brilliant location for exploring a beautiful and interesting part of Argyle.
The house was very comfortable and suitable for a large group, with a magnificent dining room looking over the canal. The breakfasting kitchen and small pantry were spacious, although a second or larger fridge would have been useful. The two front bedrooms upstairs overlook the canal and there are comfortable seats arranged to take in the view. There was a useful covered space for cycle storage too. The location was perfect for cycling and for gentle walks along the canal tow path and with the added interest of castles and ancient monuments. A longer expedition was to the Island of Gigha, seen at its best on a beautiful sunny day. This is a lovely house to stay in and I would recommend it.

Fantastic house in a fantastic location!
3 generations of family enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Shelbourne Lodge. The house is just beautiful and the many original features were admired by everyone. The kids loved the working servants bell system and delighted in playing waiters for the weekend. Everyone commented on the comfort of all the beds and the fantastic sleep they got. The location of the house is prime position, close enough to lochgilphead for the amenities but far enough out to enjoy the quiet of the countryside. The canal being on your doorstep is a great asset to the house and in the brief intervals of good weather we had, a walk along the canal was enjoyed with the dogs. One of our guests is in a wheelchair and the disability friendly facilities of the house was much appreciated especially the downstairs bathroom which is a credit. The owners left lots of little things that were very handy like towels, washing liquid, kitchen roll etc. Its all the little things you forget to take with you. As there were no guests booked in for the day we were leaving Mike allowed us a relaxed check out which with 5 kids to organise was much appreciated. We are already in discussion of dates to return to Shelbourne Lodge again. Thank you very much to Mike for such an enjoyable stay!
