The house was as described, well equipped, with lots of space to relax. Convenient for travel to Amsterdam and nearby towns. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance, and a bakery a short walk away. Everyone had a lovely vacation.
I cannot say enough great things about this property! It is a very well maintained and equipped home. Communication with both the owner and the manager, Ben were seamless. Location was phenomenal, with shops and quality restaurants all within a short walk. The location directly on a canal added to the overall beauty of the home. Amsterdam was less than a 30 minute walk/bus ride away. I highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable home in the northern Netherlands.
We couldn't ask for a better host. Unit was very clean and owner provided every compliment to make our stay even more enjoyable. Great location on lagoon overlooking dining/bar locations. Easy travel to Amsterdam via short walk to bus stop. All in our party loved our stay.
Just a short bus ride to Amsterdam, this apartment was great. It's right on a beautiful canal with restaurants and shops right outside the door.
It had everything we needed for a great stay. The owner and their "concierge" were easy to work and communicate with. Hopefully, we can make it back to The Dutch Buoy some day.
We loved our stay. Netty was an added bonus. She was a doll and made sure we were well taken care of. The house is on the water, great restaurants near by. Very easy access to bus then train to Amsterdam. All of us loved it here. So clean, comfortable and easy. Thank you. I would stay here again and again.
Five adult stayed the one bed is in a open loft area but since it was siblings it worked. Easy access to Amsterdam and also taking a ride to other areas.
Had all things we needed walk to store.
So much better than Amsterdam. A beautiful fishing village just a bus ride away from Amsterdam. We loved it. The location on the canal was incredible. The house inside was top notch. We had everything we needed and communication with Rein and Ben was excellent. If we ever return to the Netherlands we will definitely stay here again.
We had an excellent stay at the Dutch Buoy! It was so nice to come back to Monickendam after all the activity in the city of Amsterdam. We felt very safe, the home is very cozy and comfortable. We really enjoyed the restaurants in town, the food and service is so much better than you can get in a touristy area.. We had no problem with riding the metro and bus. Thank you to both Ben and Reim for all of the guidance.
The Dutch Buoy provided plenty of room for our group of four adults. The view over the canal was fabulous. The village of Monnickendam was just what we were looking for. We used public transportation for a day in Amsterdam, and parked our rental car for free outside our VRBO. Day trips from there were easy. Rein and Ben were both very attentive--without being intrusive!
A charming property in an excellent location. We did have a couple of issues: first, when we used the cooker hob we noticed a strong acrid smell which spread through the house. We reported this on the first morning and were advised it would have been cleaning product. It happened again and the concierge contacted the neighbour who had also smelled it. This time it was attributed to the neighbour’s bbq. Second, we only had 2 bath towels between 4 adults. There were 3 bath towels on arrival but one was too badly marked to use. We reported this on our first morning but no extra towels were supplied. Finally, the sound of the village clock chimes every half hour is charming during the day - not so much in the night.
The Dutch Buoy was everything we hoped for and more!
Comfortable, peaceful and relaxing, which helped us to focus on our business needs as well as enjoy some downtime.
Thank you to Rein for being so kind and informative during the booking process leading up to our stay.
A big thank you to Ben for going out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed and were comfortable, as well as accommodating our very early check-out on a Sunday morning - you are a star! :)
We will certainly be back and highly recommend the Dutch Buoy!
Our family very much enjoyed the 4 nights we stayed at The Dutch Buoy. The house was as advertised - space most suitable for 6 people with 3 double beds and 2 full bathrooms. Overall very comfortable and well-appointed. Parking was very easy - either in front of the home or just around the corner. The village itself is quiet and humble, with several restaurants and shops. Amsterdam is easily accessible either by bus or car - quite honestly, after spending the day in the big city, it was a relief to return to the small town for a quiet evening. Many thanks to Rein for the arrangements and to Ben for the local hospitality.
We stayed at this townhouse for 5 nights. Two kids, three adults. We were visiting Amsterdam and my elserly mother was with us. We spent most of our days in the city and the eveninings in Monickendam (hopefully I spelled that correctly).
The house is spacious (for a European property) and nicely equipped.
The neighborhood has a small number of excellent restaurants within walking distance. The tapa restaurant 200m from the house was our favorite (through our entire 5 week stay, including 5 days in Barcelona).
The downstairs bedroom is the main bedroom but we reserved that for grandma. There is a small bedroom upstairs and a queen sized bed in the loft. Overall, 6 sleeping spaces. This is the only house we found that has an actual dryer. Most other places that list dryer actually mean a drying rack for your clothes.
The caretaker met us at checkin time, delivered the keys, and showed is around the house. He also recommended restaurants to eat at.
If you are arriving by car like we did, you need to prepare yourself for a surprise. Roads in old European cities can be narrow but this place is especially tight due to canals and houses being right next to them. In a few places, we folded the mirrors to get through. It was a bit nerve wrecking.
The way to get to the city is to drive to the north park and ride and take the train from there. Overall it’s a 35-40 min trip but I highly recommend against driving into Amsterdam and parking there.
Out of allowed room to write. Sorry
Our family of 5 loved the location. We visited many of the nearby towns (loved Marken!) and Amsterdam of course. Convenient to walk to buses or uber around. Property is on the water with a lovely view. We naively kept all the windows open for the view and breeze so got a few spider/bug bites (lesson learned!), but otherwise we were happy. Recommend.
Great communication and check-in with Ben. Very thorough. You will not find a better view, and ample parking for free. Multiple restaurants walking distance and a grocery store near by. Bathrooms were great! Clean safe area that I would stay in if I was going to be anywhere near the area.
We had an excellent stay in Monnickendam. Apart from being very attractive, it is quite a compact place with all the facilities close by. Regular buses to Amsterdam and further north to Edam and Volendam. Excellent place for a get away...
A wonderful two-storey apartment with stunning views. Monnickendam is a beautiful small town, and perfectly located for day trips in Amsterdam or North Holland. Both the local concierge and the property owner could not have been more helpful, both in advance of our stay, and while we were there.
We had an amazing stay at the Dutch Buoy. From the very beginning the experience was fantastic with great communication from the owner all the way to staying in a 16th canal house 20 minutes north of Amsterdam. The city of Monnickendam and the surrounding area was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. We had so much fun visiting the other smaller surrounding communities that we only visited Amsterdam twice. I would highly recommend this property if you are considering a visit to The Netherlands.
It was an amazing experience. We stayed downtown right near a canal. There were several restaurants around walking distance away. It was easy to get transportation into Amsterdam. Gave you an opportunity to see the countryside. The place itself was very comfortable. Ben was there to welcome us and helpful to answer questions we had. We did ask for an early arrival time and it was worked out. Thanks for making our trip a great vacation.
There are numerous positive aspects of the Dutch Buoy property, but I'll only mention the most notable ones. Firstly, Ben's greeting at the property was very welcoming. Throughout our stay, Ben was accommodating. The Jacuzzi is unique because it is self-drying and has no mold problems. The living room was inviting, and take advantage of the beautiful sunset view. The canal was full of sailboats during our stay, and it was quite the adventure to be there during their Zuiderzee Battle against the Spaniards, which happened in 1573, celebration. The locals all dressed up in period clothing. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were very nicely equipped. Of course, the bathrobes topped off the entire experience.
