Take advantage of fantastic beaches and explore one of Cape Cod’s most prominent historic lighthouses at this charming seaside village.

North Truro is a quaint New England village occupying a picturesque spot on Cape Cod. Its appearance and prime coastal position make it a popular holiday area. Enjoy unspoiled beaches and discover Cape Cod’s past at a historic lighthouse.

North Truro is part of the town of Truro, named after Truro in Cornwall, United Kingdom, another place famed for its beaches. Before the arrival of Europeans, the Native American population called the region Pamet.

Discover North Truro’s Coast Guard Beach, quieter than other Cape Cod beaches, but no less beautiful. Enjoy a solitary walk along the deserted expanse of sand, admiring ocean views as you go.

Another popular North Truro spot is Head of the Meadow Beach. The waters here were once notoriously dangerous for seafarers. The beach even has its own shipwreck. Look out to sea and try to spot the 1872 wreck of the Frances. On many days, you’ll see surfers riding the waves.

Check out the Highland Lighthouse. It claims the titles of both oldest and highest lighthouse on the Cape. With its tall white tower and classic design, it is the quintessential New England lighthouse. Take a tour to learn about its long history. Ascend 69 steps for amazing views of Cape Cod.

For additional insight into the region’s history, visit the Highland House Museum. Exhibits feature Native American and European artefacts from the region. Don’t miss the Jenny Lind Tower, a lofty stone structure that can be seen peeking above the trees from Highland Golf Links. Legend says that Jenny Lind, a Swedish opera diva, sang from the tower in Boston in the mid-19th century. One audience member was so enchanted by her singing that he had the tower dismantled and rebuilt here.

Provincetown Municipal Airport is less than 20 minutes by car from North Truro. Boston Logan International Airport, the closest international airport, is about a 2-hour drive from North Truro. Use the shuttle bus service between North Truro and Provincetown during the summer.
