Jamaica Family Trip

The house in itself was more than adequate to accommodate all of my family. We arrived on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Miss Colleen, our cook was just amazing. She always checked with me to see what we wanted for breakfast and dinner. She was an absolute wonder. We were there from July 16 - 18. Our initial check out date was the 21st, however we had to book at the Riu Resort for the rest of the nights. The electricity went out on Thursday around noon. No a/c and the house got very hot. Miss Kelly the manager assured us that the electricity would come on “shortly”. We decided to walk down to the beach area. It was wonderful, with a good breeze which we welcomed. We returned around 4:00pm and the electricity was still not on. I had messaged Barrington and advised him about the electricity. He stated that he was very sorry but that it would be on again “very shortly”. Since the WiFi was very spotty, his later response communication was never received by me. Evidently he had sent a message that he had booked another villa for us for that night and he assured me full power would be restored the next day. In the interim I decided to look for other accommodations since by that time the heat was overwhelming. Remember, I did not receive his message about the other villa. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know about the other villa until Omar, our driver, came to pick us up to take us to the Riu Resort that I had to book for 3 nights (which was their minimum). Horrible stay! Don’t book here- have pic and videos- message me for proof

horrible stay!!!. Other positive reviews must be fake!!! House is large but run down, dirty and dusty. Air conditioning didn’t work in multiple rooms, toilets in two rooms didn’t flush, no hot water coming from sinks or shower in several bathrooms. There were cockroaches, huge spiders, colony of ants in bedrooms and kitchen drawers. The house obviously isn’t rented out often as there was no food at all in the house (not even water) upon arrival. Staff told us they had been hired 3 days prior — although I had booked for March, then rescheduled to June - and had sent a list of groceries and menu prior. Staff at the gate were unprofessional- shirtless and pants falling off upon arrival and throughout the day — fly unzipped. We specified that 3 of 7 members of our group only ate fish (no chicken or beef) however, we were served chicken on the first night. When we reported all of these matters of concern to the owner, things got much much worse. He accused me of lying and sent his house manager to check the house the following morning. She arrived at 7 am and barged into the room where two of my guests were staying waking them up in a very angry, hostile, aggressive manner. She spoke in a belligerent, taunting way stating multiple times “show me -show me” demanding to see the cockroaches and spiders. She wanted to enter the room where my daughter was sleeping - and close off all rooms not allowing us to get our massages. We had to rebook for another villa.

Absolutely accommodating!

This was a unique birthday celebration and homecoming. My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed. Things to note: -Great, willing, & friendly staff to include superior security and transportation. -comfortable bedding, cool bedrooms, and very clean house overall. -bathrooms with jetted tubs in each room -each room with a balcony -the hospitality is amazing. Things to keep in mind: This is Jamaica (not the US). Some reviews are unfair in the expectations. Some things are out of the staff and owners control.

Good Intent, Disappointing House

We arrived at the house and greeted by Nekisha and staff. There was no central air upon entering the home, only air conditioning in the bedrooms. The heat in the home was unbearable and made it hard to come out of your bedroom to mingle with everyone. Some of the TVs didn’t work and there was no running water in most of the bathrooms. I immediately sent a message to Barrington. He replied and stated that there was a burst pipe on the estate, mentioned low water pressure and air conditioners are only in the bedrooms. Everyday of our stay, we had no running water and no flushing toilets. Other issues were, mouse droppings in the kitchen cabinets, tile flooring that buckled in one of the bedrooms(tiles were later replaced that evening), the bar area looked dilapidated and shingles need replacing, the pool and jacuzzi weren’t cleaned prior to our arrival nor during our stay, there were huge cockroaches in some of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the air conditioner in the master suite stopped working, the oven in the kitchen didn’t work. We used bottled water to cleanse at times because of the water issue. Every issue stated above, host was contacted and he did respond, but I felt that he was just “responding to the message” to appease us. Family members left to go stay at the RIU resort due to issues. Staff was great, but shouldn’t have to work with the conditions of the home. Running water shouldn’t be an issue. Host should depict accurate facts about home. Would not rebook.

Beautiful Getaway!

Myself and 21 of my Sorority Sisters enjoyed a wonderful stay at L'Horizon. The pictures do not serve this house justice. It is beautiful! The owner, Mr. Barrington was always available to answer our questions. The staff was nice and professional. The beach is near and picture perfect. The manager even assisted us with finding transportation to the excursions. This was an amazing home. Thank you again!

Wonderful staff, less than wonderful house

I’ll be honest, the house is in need up some updating and care. The hot tub didn’t work, the tennis court was in ruin, and hot water, well, the wasn’t really any. Also, the WIFI was spotty (which was a challenge since some of us had jobs we had to stay on call for). That being said, my guests and I did have a wonderful time! The biggest asset of the house: the staff! Each and everyone of the staff members brought something to the experience! The chef: Oh My Gosh!! So good. He served literally the best jerk chicken I’ve ever had in my life and, as a repeat visitor to Jamaica, I’ve had my fair share. I cannot speak more highly of the food! Then there’s the bartender: makes AWESOME drinks, plays great authentic Jamaican music and knows how to shake a leg. He and the staff even taught us a few moves to bring back to the States. The house staff were also very friendly and cheerful from sun up to sun down, and the grounds crew were fun to hang and chat with, and also joined in on our nightly dance parties on the beautifully maintained lawn . The staff honestly made the house! As mentioned, the house is in need of some serious TLC, but that’s not to say it wasn’t beautiful. The rooms were spotless and well appointed, it was roomy and nicely furnished. It was authentically Jamaican and in a lovely neighborhood. Would definitely recommend, just w some explaination and w proper expectations. Oh, and the “private beach” is only a tiny beach club about 10 mind away. The music is loud and lounge chairs pricey. Was a bit dissatisfied w this as well. Luckily the shuttle driver we had drove us to some better spots.

L'horizon A Gem in Mamme Bay, Ocho Rios

L'Horizon is situated on the beautiful Mamme Bay private estate. The rooms are really spacious and tastefully decorated with en-suite jacuzzi in each room and private balcony.Whether you like to socialise or just have your own private space there's plenty of that to be found around the villa. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and we'll kept with that gorgeous swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi attached. We especially enjoyed the poolside bar for all those cocktails as you lounge around. If you have the energy there's a tennis court and gym to work off the extra pounds those super delicious home cooked meals will put on you. The staff, managed by Miss Kelly who runs a tight ship, are lovely, welcoming, friendly and were always willing to go more than the extra mile.They were only happy when we were happy. Really good service is hard to find these days but you'll find it here. I went there with my parents. My mum is very fussy when it comes to eating but at almost every meal she left an empty plate, and the only reason there was food left on the plate was because our tummies couldn't hold anymore. They were extremely happy and rested. We soooo enjoyed the beautiful private white sandy beach which was a leisurely 5 minutes stroll away, with some wonderful seaside restaurants offering freshly caught seafood plus. We also took the 10 minutes drive to Ocho Rios town centre to experience the beautiful craft market, shopping and visiting the authentic outdoor market. There was also Dolphin Cove, the world famous Duns River falls and so much more closeby which we did't have enough time to experience. My only regret was that the time was so short at the villa but we left feeling we had had a well rested holiday. L'horizon gave us the experience of the rich holidaying in a private villa at a fraction of the price. Would I return? In a heart beat. Horrible!

10 days we stayed there - group of 7. Took until the 9th day for us to have hot water. The owner emailed us that the staff would be provided - the day before we left, he said we were responsible for their pay. After tens of thousands to stay there, this guy is a piece of work and has A LOT of nerve to do that. And the gal he uses as the manager is another level....she lied to our faces and had the nerve to bring the Jamaica police the day we left thinking that was going to make us pay her! She said we couldn't tip the staff, that we had to give her the tip....hahaha. She did nothing for us to deserve THEIR money. The contract also included a driver - who charged us $250 just to go to the Bob Marley house. The whole ordeal was ridiculous and I would NEVER recommend anyone waste their money here.

A great vacation

Our week at L'Horizon was very enjoyable. The staff was extremely attentive to our needs. This was a vacation for my entire family, which consists of 18 people, myself, my wife, our kids and 8 grandkids. The 8 bedrooms at L'Horizon were comfortable, and perfect for our needs. The house is very large, but starting to show its age. We spent the majority of our time socializing at the pool and bar area. The Jacuzzi was not operating during our visit, but we did not miss it. The bar itself was not very well stocked, but transport into the Ocho Rios market was provided, and we were able to buy all the supplies needed for our group. Transportation was also provided for all of the sites we wanted to visit. My group really enjoyed the zip line, and the swim with the dolphins. Meals provided were very good, it took the cooks a couple of days to adjust to the size of our group, but they did a great job. The Jamaican style of cooking takes a little getting used to, as they leave all the bones in which can be difficult with small children, especially when serving fish. The beach, which is a 5-6 minute walk is wonderful, and was perfect for our group with the diverse ages. The Tennis court is in need of repair, but our group were not tennis players. All in all my family had a great time that we will talk about for years, One thing I should mention is that any supplies used at the bar that are supplied by L'Horizon require cash payment, also you must pay for the gas used in the transport vehicle with cash. We scrambled a little to come up with enough cash, so I suggest you bring a little extra.

beautiful!

The villa was everything the pictures showed and more.......the pool was gorgeous and the grounds spotless. There are not enough words to describe the warmth of the staff, they were wonderful and very accommodating and very friendly, never making you feel like you weren't at home. Omar and his drivers were totaling delightful, with a wealth of knowledge about the island. Great vacation!
