#LikeALocal. A free Entry event held every year in Ottery St Mary, East Devon. The Flaming Tar Barrels are carried through the streets of the town to the delight of thousands of townsfolk and visitors, something that has become very well known throughout the years.
Ottery St. Mary is internationally renowned for its Tar Barrels – the event is said to have originated in the 17th century, and is held each year. Each of Ottery’s central public houses sponsors a single barrel. Held on November 4th, the barrels are soaked with tar and are lit outside each of the pubs in turn and once the flames begin to pour out, they are hoisted up onto local people’s backs and shoulders.

「The lodge was exactly as described. Surrounded by a large green garden and woodland and hedgerow. It is off the beaten track but this made it perfect for a quiet getaway. Waking in the morning to see a deer grazing was an absolute treat. Also got visited by a Pheasant as well as a very healthy looking fox!! A previous review mentioned some dodgy Wifi, but after bumping into the lovely owner of the property it got resolved, so absolutely no complaints at all. Did not go there for Wifi anyway!...

「We had an amazing time here. The barn is furnished to an excellent standard and there was no scrimping on the mod cons. We had everything we needed. The views were glorious and the little touches went a long way. Would absolutely recommend this property to all- excellent value for money. Stayed with my elderly father who is on palliative care and the one level, warm property made it easy to look after him. It’s in a central location for beaches and so many areas of beauty. 「I loved that old cottage and am glad it is in good use. It's nicely furnished and the village where it is situated is delightful. Two negatives were the dog smell in the lounge and poor state of plants in pots. While the dog smell is probably unavoidable as dogs are allowed, the dead plants brought about a depressing impression. Being a gardener, I tried to look after the remaining plants and had to transplant one huge heuchera plants that was literally hanging in the air as its pot was...
