“The Shady Lawn Inn is a wonderful place to stay. It's in the heart of Newland, NC, a small town with a cool vibe. Shady Lawn Inn was my home for 10 days because of car trouble. Staff Kara (front desk), Maria (housekeeping) and Ms. Suzzanah (owner) were so gracious and helpful and I felt safe. Room was clean, a bit dark, comfortable bed (king) and the ac cools when needed. Weather was delicious. Waightstills Restaurant steps from my room. Full bar, food variety, try the risoto with……

“This place has a pretty view if your room is on the front side. There is no air in this facility which was not stated up front. It wasn't that hot when we were there so it was fine. There are fans in the closet. Beds weren't that comfortable and there was no coffee on Sunday. Overall our stay was good but this facility could certainly use some updating.”

“This might be my new favorite place to stay!! It has been beautifully restored, employs friendly and helpful staff and provides the thickest bath towels ever!!! I appreciated the extra touches such as soft pillows in addition to the firm ones on the bed, a noise machine by the bed and a fridge, iron and ironing board in my room!! The bathing products in the shower were excellent and the complimentary breakfast buffet offered hearty, healthy and grab and go options. I look forward to staying……

“Everything was clean and ready for us. Was a cold week but still nice and warm with the gas logs. Kitchen was supplied with utensils and cooking equipment. Enjoyed our stay. We will be back. ”

“CALl IT WHAT IT IS If you are an AT hiker looking for a place to sleep close to the trail, in the dry, this is a good option. The bed was clean, had a refrigerator and ceiling fan, but no coffee pot. The bathroom and shower are communal so be aware there is not a bathroom in each “cabin,” nor can you lock your door from the inside. Thus “resort” is misleading. I am not sure why they chose to include “resort” in naming this place. It is very clearly a nice rustic campground with four hostel……
