Rooms on the bottom floor had spiders. Rooms were advertised to have bidets but did not. Staff was hit or miss depending on the day and location. The beach and pool are nice but nothing else to do. The shows are outside, so when it rains you are out of luck.

I took a solo vacation to Senator Puerto Plata and enjoyed the hotel, beach and gorgeous scenery and views. The Jr Garden Suite in Building 12 is dated but was clean, had great air conditioning, hot water, a comfortable bed and a patio facing palm trees. The resort isn't massive...easily walkable. The beach was free of sargassum with lovely sand and fresh breeze. Tons of chairs available. Beach vendors selling photos and offering hair braids are frequent but a simple "no, gracias" does the trick. The pool area is divided into 2 pools and one has a swim up bar. Get your towels early! Plenty of options for food at the main buffet or sports bar or snack bar. I found the buffet to have good selection of meat and fish and vegetables. Nice cakes for dessert. The staff work hard in the buffet. There's a cute little street that has shops selling souvenirs, rum, cigars, jewelery, etc...there's also a pizza place, ice cream and coffee shop where you can eat/drink for free. The resort has a show nightly. There are good areas for quiet and activities depending on your taste. Don't miss taking the walking trail up the hill to the viewpoint. From there you can see the whole resortnand coast and the bay on the other side where cruise ships dock. The sunset is beautiful. A great stay and I would definitely return!

Rooms a bit dated but clean. Low tier alcohol only. Food was OK, not the best but not the worst. New Years there was a dinner gala which was amazing. Very well done lots of great food and drinks. Nightly entertainment area was lacking. Small drink cart or you could go up to sports bar. Entertainment shows were OK. The entertainment team had great energy but content was so-so. Sister resort had much better evening events and a better setup with a covered stage, several bars, multiple events each night. No food at pool area or beach. No bar at beach…had to walk back to pool bar. No drink servers. Beach and water was great. A bit rough at times but great other days. No centralized system. Had to see concierge to make dinner reservations. They had times of events listed (except nightly entertainment…never saw that listed) on a board but did not say where they were. Many other resorts we visited had apps to reserve dinners and listed what was going on. No beach rental (snorkeling/kayaks) that we ever found. A better overall description of events would help. All in all an OK resort that grew on us. Great for a few day get away but would look elsewhere in the future.
