“Would never stay at this hotel again, we booked a windowless room however this was 2 floors below ground. The lifts weren’t working , the stairwell was dirty , the corridors didn’t have carpet or they were extremely worn, trying to find your room and way out was ridiculous it was like a rabbit warren with very poor signage . I was told that the rooms had previously been used for asylum seekers and this was obvious given the condition of the facility”

“I'd say our stay was average. The room was clean, except for the windows which were covered in hand prints. Both of the silver finish plates around the shower controls were loose and not attached to the walls. The restaurant food was ok......I saw customers wait for accompanying sides well after their mains were delivered. We ordered 1 large glass of house white and 1 red with our meal. The white came in a large glass but the red came in a small glass filled to the brim as they had no large……

“We stayed over for the concert at the open air. The hotel was clean and well maintained- all the staff were polite and friendly. Our room was clean. The bar was lovely and the restaurant and breakfast was perfect. The en-suite was very small but clean. The only thing that would have meant full star rating would have been a better parking arrangement, - a quality mattress and blackout curtains. That being said we would definitely stay here again.”

“The location is good as well as the service. The breakfast is really tastey. The lady who served our breakfast is really nice and even made me a takeway breakfast when I told her my train would be very early and would miss the breakfast. ”

“Room was clean although some area in bathroom need touching up. It was satisfactory for our short stay & reasonably priced. Staff welcoming on arrival. Great to have pub next door to get breakfast & dinner when needed.”

“We knew the car parking was limited but theres only 5 or 6 bays so had to park the car over half a mile away. On arrival the staff were friendly got booked in and went to room. Room was very tired looking and dusty in places, bed was clean but covers were basic (rough to the touch). Bedroom furniture very dated and chipped. The maintenance guy knocked 15 minutes later to apply some silicone to the bath as there had been a leak to the room below the previous week. Bathroom was also tired bath……

“Staff very helpful, amazing location so easy to get around various beauty spots. Park& Ride across the road. Access to Whitby so easy. Disabled visitors catered for. Staff decorated our room ( which was amazing) for my birthday. Lovely surprise.”

“Fridge in property not working resulting in food being thrown away. A replacement was given but food had already become a risk to eat. On closer inspection maintenance person said seal had corroded.”

“Staff are really great and friendly! The room we stayed is near the alley which is noisy during the night that we couldn’t sleep well. And the pillows are flat that are not comfortable. ”

“We had no running hot water other than the electric shower. No wardrobe just hangers on hooks. TV was the size of an iPad. Bottom bed sheet too small and forever coming off. Needs to be clearer when it states breakfast included but it is only cereal. Outside seating area not suitable as soiled with seagulls droppings”

“I was very disappointed with my stay at Green Gables Hotel. The building is extremely tired and in desperate need of renovation. The communal areas felt neglected, with stained carpets, dated décor, and an unpleasant musty smell that gave a poor first impression. The room was very basic and didn't match the expectations set by the photos online. Cleanliness was below the standard I expected, and several facilities either weren't available or weren't working properly. Overall, the hotel felt……

“We were given a room inferior than what we booked. Apart from that breakfast was nice, room was clean. Checked on at 3 but room only available after 4.”
