Good location for the byes

Good location for walking on the Byes, 10 minutes from the seafront.It is a Victorian house and the stairs are tricky on the 1st floor landing next to the bathroom. 4 minutes from an amazing pub called The Volunteer Inn, which has amazing food and is well worth a visit.

Lovely stay

Charming house in an ideal location just across from the Byes and a short walk into Sidmouth. Parking can be a little tricky, but the owners had provided a folder containing lots of useful information, including alternative parking.

By the Byes

A spacious house with a lovely little back garden to sit in. Front view is of the allotments leading to a small bridge over a stream with a 10 minute walk to town and seafront. A vibrant town with independent shops, cafe's, pubs and restaurants. Can highly recommend Dukes, The Anchor and The Chattery.

Loved it.

We loved this holiday cottage. The location was perfect for us and the dog! Seafront, town and country park were only minutes away. The house is beautifully furnished with lots of space; the bed was really comfortable (such a big deal to us); lots of lovely local cafes with delicious food and coffee. The garden was good to let the dog out in the early morning and poo bins in the Byes meant it was easy to clean up after her too. We love Sidmouth and have really enjoyed spending our wedding anniversary and daughter’s birthday away.

Lovely house, great location but be wary of the stairs

We loved our stay at this lovely well located and well equipped cottage. Our only comments would be that: - visitors considering this property should be made aware that the stairs are relatively narrow and steep. This means that transferring luggage is not easy, especially for more elderly guests, and they are potentially dangerous for guests on the top floor who need to visit the bathroom on the middle floor in the middle of the night. Also, be aware that the stairs also open straight into the bedroom on the top floor with no door or separation, - The water pressure from the shower head was very low, (we noted that this had been mentioned in the past), and was only acceptable when adjusted to provide a narrow jet, - the bed on the first floor was indeed very comfortable but the springs in both worn mattresses in the bedroom on the upper floor could clearly be felt and need replacing, - Having worked in tourism for many years, we were surprised that there was no welcome pack such as tea, coffee, a bottle of wine etc which is such a standard feature in comparable properties. These comments are in no way a complaint but intended to be constructive so as to fully inform future guests & help the owners to turn a lovely property into a truly top-notch one!

Excellent location

The house is in an excellent location in the beautiful town of Sidmouth. We were all mature visitors. It appeared as though we were the first visitors of the season. The front garden entrance was very untidy. The entrance door very dirty covered in cobwebs, the plants/trees overgrown, which made it appear very unwelcoming, (such a shame) the back garden was the same. Very overgrown, not really usable for 4 adults with only a small table/2chairs. Which you could not sit around due to the overgrowth of plants/trees. Was a shame as we would have liked to sit and relax after a day out! The top bedroom in the eves of the house had a large velux window with no blind or covering, which was horrendous in the early morning with light/sun blaring into the room, which was blisteringly hot. We had to try and cover it with a throw and buy a fan for sleeping! As others had mentioned the stairs outside the bathroom are actually a death trap, not suitable for children or anyone for that matter. The bathroom itself needed a good clean. The skirting boards full of dust/dirt! Nothing was supplied for cleaning, either in the kitchen or bathroom, no bin bags, nothing! Not very welcoming at all.

Lovely location

The house is in a perfect spot for walking into Sidmouth or through the beautiful Byes. Well equipped with very comfy bed although sofas could do with an upgrade. Only downside is parking can be tricky but we would stay here again when coming to Sidmouth.

Property is in a good location but parking could be difficult. House not ideal for elderly people as stairs very steep and no downstairs toilet. Location very quiet. Would be okay for a young family. Will not stay there again.

Peaceful, perfectly located

Great property for convenience of location and victorian charm. We only got in the car once for a day trip, all others were walks or bus rides. Property was clean, had mod cons and was very comfortable. Instructions were clear for appliances. Thanks to owners .

Lovely cosy house in quiet location

Perfect location for walking into Sidmouth and surrounding countryside via the beautiful Byes. House was spotless and had everything we needed and more. Our daughter loved what she described as "her cave"which was actually the loft room. Will definitely return soon,thank you for letting us stay

Bringing Back Memories

Very enjoyable stay in a house four doors away from where I spent the first eleven years of my life, with my grandparents living next door. Looking out over and crossing the little bridge over the River Sid to the Byes, a N.Trust couple of miles park, then passing the Old Toll House, heading for the beach via a car-crossing ford, has not changed in sixty years. Sidmouth is still a delightful gem with the red cliffs of Salcombe Hill and Peak Hill protecting it either side. Lots to see and do....ride on a tram along the River Axe at Seaton, visit the old mining caves at Beer, and admire the donkeys at the Donkey Sanctuary. The house was very well equipped with everything required, also the beds were very comfortable. All in all a very enjoyable week.

Great experience

Very clean and tidy, close to everything in Sidmouth. House heating good. We got a park for the car every day in the street outside. Only negatives,' only one bin (grey) and water out of cold tap in kitchen almost non-existent and shower pressure very low.

The property was excellent and in a nice quiet part of Sidmouth. It was a bit of a lottery with regards to parking, but I think that was because several properties had contractors in working.

Ausgezeichneter Aufenthalt

Das Cottage liegt zentrums- und strandnah (10Min.), nah zur Busstation und sehr ruhig gegenüber Kleingärten und dem Park "the Byes". Wenn vor dem Haus kein Platz zum Parken mehr war, fanden wir südwest. auf der anderen Parkseite (Beatlands Road) immer einen Stellplatz und waren in 5 Minuten Fußweg durch den Park am Haus. Ausl-/Einladen vor dem Haus mit kurzfristiger Behinderung eines kommenden Fahrzeugs war immer möglich: die Engländer dort sind geduldige und tolerante Menschen. Wir hatten überhaupt kein Problem. Der zum Haus gehörende Garten mit den tollen gelben Rosen liegt 3 Schritte seitlich hinter dem Haus. Das Haus selbst ist für 2-4 Personen ausreichend groß. Die Nachbarn rechts und links hat man (bis auf ein weinendes Kind) grundsätzlich nicht gehört. Insgesamt eine sehr gute Unterkunft, die wir auch Bekannten weiter empfehlen würden.

Excellent Location

A lovely cottage that is in an ideal location for walking access to beautiful Sidmouth ( only about 10 mins!). The Byes are beautiful and ideal for dog walking.
