“I enjoyed my stay at the Shire. It’s an odd mix of comfort, luxury, bargain and practicality. The room was clean and comfortable, if a bit worn. I sprang for a river front room, which was an excellent idea. The deck outside my door was right off of the lawn at the edge of the water, and it was a delight to have the soothing water sounds outside. In better weather, you can use the fire pits and Adirondack chairs to create a cozy vibe at the water’s edge. The drawback to the waterfront rooms……

“We really enjoyed our stay. Kids loved the well organized Activity Room with the coloring sheets, blocks, access to the large screen tv. We only had one issue and that was the lighting at night entering the pool area. We had mentioned at our stay in April 2023 that it made if very difficult to walk there from our condo and were surprised it was not resolved. But hopefully, the painting of the floor pool is a good sign that the renovations are under way. Other than that, we always were……

“We were happily surprised when we stayed at The Common Man Inn for the first time. Friendly staff, very clean, fun and funky decor (in keeping with The Common Man restaurants) and a wonderful continental breakfast. Love the old mill building architecture. Having The Common Man restaurant right next door is a bonus. Highly recommend both!”

“It was our first time in the castle itself, usually we stay in the lower hotel but the rates were comparable to the least expensive so I booked one night in the “castle”. The only complaint we really had was the heater in the room was controlled from a thermostat that was down the hall and was for the entire building so our room was either cold or way too hot even with the windows open in late April. “Amazing place to stay for our Girl Scout ski trip! We rented the cottage which sleeps 12 and had two large, comfy rooms for adults plus large family room and new built in beds off family room for the girls. Well appointed modernized rooms while still retaining an authentic Inn feeling. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast buffet, especially the French Toast. “The home and entire property is lovely. Our room was not in the main house but it was roomy, clean and comfortable. Loved the cute Conutry store as well. Charge a little more and include a breakfast voucher. ”

“This Inn was built in 1801, so it’s a very old Inn. There are not enough superlatives. Fantastic. Awesome. Amazing. Going back definitely. All rooms are beautifully furnished with four-posters and very comfortable chairs. Place to be lived in. Immaculately clean. As soon as you walk in you want to stay forever. Warm. Delicious homemade breakfasts. Innkeeper Elizabeth is friendly and accommodating. We could have talked for hours. Still blissing out days later. ”
