  • "Until standardisation of weights and measures in the 18th century, a "mile" in Scotland could be a variable distance. Generally a Scottish mile was longer than a mile in England, a fact which was immortalised by Robert Burns in his poem "Tam o' Shanter" - "We think na on the lang Scots miles..." After the Union of the Parliaments in 1701, the standard English measure began to be introduced in Scotland, gradually replacing the Lang Scots Mile. The Lang Scots Mile Walk was created in 2002 on the seafront of Ayr to commemorate the town's historical links with Burns as well as to encourage healthy exercise. Best Stay in Ayr

The Townhouse was the best place we could have landed upon our arrival to Scotland. Our room was immaculate & the bed was very comfy, which we needed with the big time change. Allison was a wonderful host & breakfast was delicious. We loved exploring the area... it was located on a quiet residential street, but still within walking distance of many good restaurants & shops. We would not stay anywhere else upon our return to Ayr. Highly recommend this lovely boutique B&B!

This was the most elegant and b&b I’ve ever stayed in. The room was magnificent and the owner/operators were fantastic. They treated us marvelously, were welcoming, and made us feel right at home during our stay. The breakfast was absolutely the best. Absolutely incredible - a ‘must stay’

Absolutely fantastic - an incredibly beautiful property in a lovely quiet street. The room was so comfortable and beautifully decorated, with a fantastic bathroom. Breakfast, which you order the evening before, was absolutely delicious and Alison was a fantastic host. The building had a stunning front room for guests to use and was beautifully decorated throughout. Spacious, quiet, peaceful and welcoming. Highly recommend and we will definitely go back if we are staying in Ayr again - I can’t imagine you could find anywhere to compare.
