Città Alta

Perched on a hilltop above Bergamo, Città Alta captivates visitors with its medieval charm. Venetian walls encircle this UNESCO-listed treasure where Renaissance palazzos and ancient towers line cobblestone piazzas. The ornate Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore stands proudly alongside the marble-adorned Colleoni Chapel. The area comes alive through traditional osterias serving authentic Lombard cuisine like polenta and casoncelli pasta. Artisanal boutiques and local craft stores occupy historic buildings throughout the pedestrian-friendly centre. The funicular railway connects to lower Bergamo, though exploring on foot reveals the most enchanting corners.

Via XX Settembre offers excellent shopping while Parco Suardi provides a peaceful green retreat. The area balances business energy with authentic Italian daily life.

Stazione

Bergamo's Stazione area centers around the city's main railway station. This practical hub connects travellers to Milan, Brescia, and regional destinations. Beyond the station, tree-lined streets lead to quiet residential blocks with balconied apartments. Day trips to Milan or Lake Como are easy with excellent transport connections.

Borgo San Leonardo

Borgo San Leonardo offers a slice of authentic Italian life away from Bergamo's tourist crowds. This cultural enclave invites you to wander cobblestone streets where honey-colored buildings with terracotta roofs create a timeless atmosphere. Traditional trattorias serve hearty Lombard specialities while church bells mark the rhythm of daily life. Via San Bernardino's market street bustles with speciality food shops and local delicacies. "Really well located hotel just outside central Bergamo but only 10 minutes to central car parks. And 10 minutes drive to airport! Very helpful staff, and you have a shopping centre and spa attached to back of hotel. Car parking is easy in the underground car park with limited spaces. Right next to a small suburb train station as well. The area is still being developed but very quiet and clean. Worth paying a visit to the Rooftop Restaurant which is amazing (we had Sushi) and also nearby restaurant La Malga which is great for lunch with home cooked Italian food. Would definitely recommend and we will come back when in the area"

"Booked a trip for me and a friend and wanted to keep to a budget. This hotel was budget friendly but felt like luxury. 10 minutes walk from the Train station, easy access to bus routes and local amenities and restaurants. A short bus ride or 30/40 minutes walk to Citta Alta via the funnicular. The apartment was immaculate, spacious and modern, we had a separate living space/kitchen, a large bathroom and a comfortable bed. Very quiet and minimal road noise. The staff were polite and check in was easy. There is a tourist tax and this has to be paid in cash if checking in after 8pm via the night porter (we managed to get there just before 8pm) I cannot fault the hotel or the location. Absolutely fantastic stay and would return. Excellent value for money."

"Don’t bother to book a deluxe room. We did but were probably assigned an economy room (according to the photos on sight as well). We were housed in an annex with no view. This was disappointing and definitely not worth the added cost. One night air conditioning malfunctioned. That being said it’s a charming property and very well situated just outside the old walls.
