To begin, writing a review for Topo’s Tree House is difficult quite simply because the incredible experiences that my girlfriend and me had while staying at the tree house for five days are nearly impossible to put into words. For anyone even remotely considering trekking to Cahuita and lodging at the tree house: DO IT. No matter how many photos you see, virtual tours you take, and gushing reviews you read, your stay at Topo’s Treehouse, and the proprietor Topo, will exceed even the highest expectations. The house is literally a part of the giant tree, and is alive, well, and the perfect place to call home while in Costa Rica.
Concerning the tree house itself, the place has an almost magical vibe that runs throughout the property. While this statement may sound cheesy, the isolation, cleanliness, various areas for sitting and talking, symphony of sounds, the well-working amenities, hammocks, vegetation, wildlife (we saw frogs and a sloth with her baby), and sturdy structure of the unique house all work together to harbor a space for relaxation, one to which we will always feel connected. Everything is fully furnished and equipped with plenty of towels, pillows, blankets, soap, cutlery, etc., and the house has everything needed for cooking; Topo, staying at the guest house out back just a stone’s throw away, is just a holler away if we did need anything or had questions. We even had a few cold beers in our fridge! The beach, bars, restaurants, and a breakfast places are within immediate walking distance (maybe four minutes walking to the beach with everything else in between).
While simply staying at the tree house made our trip an unforgettable experience, Topo’s courtesy, generosity, and helpfulness elevated our trip to a higher level. He showed us around town, gave us recommendations for the best prices on virtually everything to do (canopy tours, beaches, bars, grocery, horseback riding, surfing), had an occasional drink with us, and was never intrusive whatsoever. He truly cared about our stay and his relaxed and infectious demeanor quickly rubbed off on us. In fact, we had such a great time at the tree house and in Cahuita in general, we decided to extend our stay for a couple more days, and among our many journeys in Costa Rica, staying at the tree house is our favorite memory.
If this review comes off as overzealous, I’d respond by saying that it is almost impossible to articulate how special this place and Topo are.
