A family get together

The property has sleeping areas, rather than private bedrooms. The kitchen is not fancy, but with good planning we fed our family group of 7 comfortably. The grill and firepit is a plus. Despite rainy weather we all had a good time at this unusually entertaining property. The property owner could not have been more friendly or helpful.

Wonderful river retreat!

We loved our stay. Rode our bikes from Richmond and it was a great place to relax. Beautiful views of the river and so peaceful. The host could not have been more accommodating, he was super nice! We took the boat taxi to Blue Heron restaurant both nights and it was lovely. We hope to return soon.

My family and I had a great time kayaking on the river! The property was also convenient for visiting Williamsburg area sites. The property owner was friendly and helpful. Property was clean and accurate to the listing.

River House - Charles City, VA

Absolutely beautiful place on the river - We only stayed in the area two days and had other obligations and didn’t get to enjoy all the offered amenities. But will definitely keep this location as a favorite and we hope to return soon.

Best VRBO experience I've ever had.

James is a amazing host! The house is right by the water perfect for fishing and swimming. There are lots of games at the house to keep everyone entertained. 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic place for a weekend getaway

My family and I loved staying here. Was such a great place and my teenagers loved having access to the pool table, air hockey and arcade games in the room they were sleeping in! Was only 30 minutes from Busch Gardens too!

Had to cancel my trip

I had to cancel my trip the day of check in because I came down with COVID. The owner was very understanding and helped to figure out how to cancel the trip because VRBO wouldn't let me do it on my end. I definitely want to stay at this property in the future!

Pictures are deceiving

Property was not waterfront as pictures would suggest. Steps very steep and difficult to get up and down. Renovated barn is just a few hundred feet from homeowners front door.

Quiet, good scenery, lots to do.

My 6 year old loves all the games downstairs. My wife and I enjoyed the quietness and the scenery. Close to Williamsburg. A fun experience all around.

Beautiful Birthday Weekend

My family gathered at this property to celebrate the birthdays of our 2 kids. 3 of us stayed on property and others traveled to join us for the day. Beautiful property! It is clean and well kept. Our labrador retreiver particularly loved the access to water at the next door boat launch. The downstairs apartment has a GREAT game room. We enjoyed playing air hockey, pool, video games, and watching sports on the enormous TV. We also enjoyed the fire pit one of the nights we were there. So much fun! It was great to meet James, the owner. He and his daughter were great hosts! We really loved this property and plan to return.

Great weekend of fishing

Place was great location right on the water able to dock boat. Did lots of fishing not in house much but everything needed is there. Caught a 20lb blue from the dock. Host was great and vey welcoming hope to return someday.

Home away from home

Great rental with plenty of opportunity to relax and unwind. My kids loved jumping off the dock and swimming and it was wonderful to have kayaks and a paddle board to use. Lots of downtime relaxation in the game room. House was easy to get to and convenient access to everything in Williamsburg or Richmond. Host was 100% available, helpful and friendly.

Nice piece of property

I feel we greatly understand utilized this property because we were here for a soccer tournament. The place has a beautiful view. Dock access is nice. Not an issue for us, but good to note the house the owner lives in is closer than I expected and between the VRBO and river so you have to walk through the backyard to get to the dock. The owner is very friendly and was not a bother at all for us. This place is a dual suite which was perfect for what we needed it for. Upstairs has the queen Murphy bed with the bigger kitchen and bathroom. Downstairs has all the games (my kids loved the spider light up game) a small bathroom with a shower and a kitchenette. The connection between these spaces is a stairway outside. It's a beautiful location. Cool and unique set-up. A great place to stay with a responsive kind host.

My stay

James was a great host. The problems I had were first VRBO sent me nothing again about check in, location, nothing. This is the second time that happened and I won’t be using VRBO again for any future travels. Second was the mattress on the bed was terrible and I had to leave early because my back couldn’t take it anymore. Third there were any trash bags, a broom and dust pan. There was a vacuum but that was broken(the pickup brush doesn’t go around and just falls out) and there was a Swiffer type mop but the pads that were there weren’t the correct ones. The pool table in the game room the balls just fell into the bottom somewhere and weren’t retrievable so that was pretty much useless and there was a dirty sock stuffed down inside one of the pockets. The other games worked fine and my grandkids enjoyed playing them and using the outdoor slides and zip line and such. These are things I am sure that James will fix. The other thing I didn’t realize is that this property is right behind his house, I thought it was going to be a property more by itself with a little more privacy. I didn’t see that in any pictures nor could I see it on Google maps because of the trees. It’s a beautiful area, very quiet and peaceful area but I was expecting something a little more private. It’s personal opinion, it doesn’t bother some people but it wasn’t what I was looking for in a rental. Even though James said feel free to use the property I felt like I was intruding on someone’s personal space, that’s just me I think because I tend to be very private.

Owner lives close by. Greeted me he saw me walking down to the dock. Extremely friendly and genuine person. When I stayed it was pretty chilly but the was no lack of things to do inside. I’m pretty sure the is a game for everybody. Then the supplies to take you outside, we’ll again I think he thought it through fishing poles, kayaks (of course with safety equipment), canoe, and so much more. I don’t have kids but if you did they might not even come inside there is a playground (for real -not the plastic stuff), zip line, basketball and the river to swim in from a really nice dock. A word of caution this is not going to be a good option if you can’t climb stairs because you need to be able to do for both the house/cabin and the dock access.
