  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

While the room was clean, the stairwell to the 2nd floor smelled like the back end of a barn. The lady at the desk when I checked in was nice, but when I was checking out, I stood at the counter for several minutes (alone) before someone helped me. It was a good visit for the price, but I wasn't "wowed."

I wouldn’t go

The sink was clogged up, tv remote was not compatible with tv so I had to use my phone, there was a set of ridiculous rules that shouldn’t be exist considering the quality of the room, freezer had dirty ice stored in it, Best part was the bed being comfortable.

It was way better then expected. Room was very clean the bathroom was very clean. The ac worked without issue. It was very quiet and we felt safe. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Its in a bad area i think from the looks of it. The room wasnt to bad and it was nice and quiet. I didn't see any bed bugs I looked all over but there was roaches.

The only thing I can say is that I don’t have any problem with the morning shift because I think she is great with her job and customers service and the other people especially the African guy

Drum beat was excessive and loud interfered with checkin as party room was directly across from check in desk. It was noisy with people and children in parking lot and near outside door. Outside door lock was broken and anyone could enter the hotel. There was no remote for tv that worked. The bed was very nice and the room was clean.

Property is not well maintained. Toilet seat not attached, cove base molding coming off the wall, dirty and stained walls, unpleasant odor throughout room, numerous other small items needing attention. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioner worked. All that said, it was a $70 room! Will plan better next time so I don't end up in a place like this.

When we arrived at the facility, the signage was poor and the lot was dimly lit. Just finding your way into the lobby was an adventure. The staff was nice enough, but the door lock was broken to the outside. There were bedbugs and fleas in our room, both dead and alive. One of the two panes of the window was shattered. Utter disaster. I was forced to go to a different hotel or sleep with bedbugs. I’ll never likely use this app again, and definitely won’t be staying at this facility ever.

Past its prime

There were a number of challenges with this stay, none insurmountable. They key reader for my son's room went off all night the first night, keeping him awake. Apparently the battery needed changing. There was no security for the back door. The rescue squad was outside our room twice over two days, and the mini-fridge and microwave advertised were absent from our room upon check in. The laundry was also not working. The bed was quite comfortable, and the staff were working hard.

Disappointment.

Where to begin, at check in we waited in a line of people because the hotel clerk at the counter was on the phone arguing with someone, when we finally did get into our room we were greeted by a live roach crawling on the desk then as the night went on we discovered one of the rags that came with the room had a large cigarette burn (not that it mattered because when we turned on the shower there was so little water pressure it would not come out the shower head); we decided from there to just use the jacuzzi tub only to discover that not a single feature of it worked other than the water spout. Only real good thing about this room was the bed was comfortable. Wish we could just get refunded.

I meeeean, at least it didn't have bedbugs?

No elevator the hallways smelled like urine, The bed frame was broken so the head of the bed sunk down like two feet lower than the rest of the bed... The bathroom counter was covered in white dust because the ceiling above it had fallen from water damage... And around one a m someone who had been sold the same room tried to keep code their way into the room where I was sleeping. Before anybody jumps on here and calls me boujie.... I am country born and raised.And have slept on piles of hay and dirt.That felt cleaner and safer than this hotel.

Stay somewhere else!!!

From the time we walked in, the entire place was filty. There was food all over the carpets in the hallway. Getting into the room, there were stains all over the carpets and walls. The paint was flaking off the ceiling in the bathroom and the towels were either stained or not washed. The water pressure was barely enough to rinse the soap off. The "sealed" cup on the counter had been opened and had water sitting in it showing that it had been used. The plastic was tucked back in it to make it appear to be unused. There were little kids running up and down the hallway until around 2AM. We sprung for the room with a jacuzzi tub to relax in, but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while, so we passed. On a good note, we checked the bed and found no bedbugs and the mattress was pretty comfortable. It wasn't enough to overcome the deplorable condition of the rest of the entire building.

The Expedia ad for this place is very misleading. The only thing to say about this place is a step up for the homeless. And that's an insult to the homeless.
