The main heater in the cottage did not work. I was promptly given two space heaters, which helped but didn't really keep the property warm. Moreover, for safety reasons, space heaters should not be used at night when you're sleeping or when you leave the property, so it was always cold. The shower didn't work; it was all hot or all cold, not much in between. The cover on the drain was off. Moreover, the water pressure in the bathroom was very low. I took one shower in 7 days and washed my hair in the kitchen sink. After the first day or two, I could not lock the property when I left. The lock was corroded and needed to be replaced. In addition to my clothes, I had well over $1500 in personal items that someone could have easily walked away with. Finally, the prominently advertised fit pit, which I was looking forward to using, wasn't there, though there was a small charcoal grill.
Before leaving I brought a list of these problems by the Sand Key rental office and went over them with the woman there. You can't fix it if you don't know about it. Still, I cannot recommend this property until these maintenance items are taken care of. If you're interested in leasing the Sunshine Cottage, I'd strongly advise you to contact the host (i.e., Sand Key Rentals) to make sure these issues have been resolved.
