“This was a very old historical building in as good of a shape as it could be. Some uneven floors and a lot of steps to get to your room. It was small and quiet charming. The staff was pleasant and helpful. A bus stop was right out the side. Very pleasant. The bed was nice, no air conditioning, but it was fairly cool when we went in August, 2026. They had a fan. We are from Florida so the low 70's was a joy for us for August.”

“Had a great stay here, spacious bedroom overlooking the countryside in a quiet location. Enjoyed the food and great atmosphere in the pub.”

“Quirky rooms but very unclean, tv was like watching a tv from 2010 terrible quality.”

“Just stayed here last week very easy to find plenty parking. Check in straight forward the young man very friendly. Some minor faults with rooms. We had 2 rooms . Both kettles in rooms had bad limescale so never used them .the teabags looked like they had just been thrown in a pile on the dresser Bathroom towel instead of being white had a massive blue stain on .bed sheet was dirty. .you could hear the traffic outside but to be expected as on main road. I think for value for money……

“Room is tidy, breakfast is very nice. Need to enhance the security. Windows without lock, door locks are loose.”

“I think the hotel is pretty,i like the rustic feel and furniture of the lounge/restaurant area. However the bedroom and bathroom can do with a modern , colourful, light and airy renovation. The bathroom is outdated ,I think they can update this. The staff can improve by being a bit more welcoming, friendly and warm. Sadly in my room,m was on the ground floor and I was able to hear everything happening upstairs, n on the main corridor,so it was rather hard to sleep. so the place needs thicker……

“Clean, comfortable, spacious room. Great, helpful staff. Close to bus station, restaurants, stores, boutiques, and four-FOUR charity shops! :) (Parking is confusing, however. Park in the nearby city lot in a space with WHITE borders-otherwise you may have to pay.)”

“I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality and spaciousness of my room (10). Staff were friendly and professional; the assistant at breakfast was first rate in supporting a substantial number of guests. And the Craster kippers were excellent. The one thing missing at breakfast was a bowl of fresh fruit. Dinner was well prepared and presented. All in all a very good experience at the Duke of W.”
