"Staff are unfriendly, bar was unstaffed and took 10-15 minutes to get a drink when there was no other people in the bar, when room cleaning sign was left on door room didn’t get cleaned, when opted to not have room cleaned was left a 5 pound voucher but then the card was taken from the door, wasn’t told about works being done on the water through the day resulting in no water, and after the works the water pressure dropped significantly so shower was rubbish, and no hot water for rest of that day."
"In the national peak district park Buxton is lovely. Room was OK but decor starting to look a bit dated. Stayed here many times before but I think the new owners are neglecting it in favour of their new hotel on the crescent round the corner. Breakfast used to be table served cooked fresh and served by lovely elderly waitresses, but is now just a hot buffet style and the staff look as though they do not care about the guests. Strict about 11am checkout too. Would still stay here again though because this hotel has character."
"The breakfast was great, the internet was fast, the staff were ok, and the gym was basic but adequate. The carpet in the room appeared to be old and ready to be changed, it made the room feel dirty. During my visit they were replacing fire doors so there was a bit of noise during the days but not unbearable. Very close to the trains for easy access, close to a supermarket and a retail shopping centre."
"We stayed here for our friends wedding reception but for the price of our room £151 for a night we were disappointed.
Bring your own toiletries as the hotel only supply x1 of each 30ml shower gel shampoo conditioner. No enough for 2 guests for 4 showers. No fridge in room to put milk (if like me who loves her cuppa tea) or bring your own wine .hotel will charge you if you leave your empty bottles in the bin . Small Cold plates at breakfast (we had a cooked one) i did ask the waitress for a warm plate but she said they dont have a plate warmer. Overall hotel looks lovely from outside bed was comfy but im afraid to say ive stayed at some fantastic hotels but this isnt one of them Ps they will take an extra £50 from you at check in refundable if no damage to the room or empty alcohol bottles in bin. Order at the bar a large white wine + pint of cider costs £20"
"Whilst this once nust have been a high prestige hotel to stay at, it's decay is obvious. The wind howls through the corridors and rooms permanently as the floors are uneven and the windows are wonky, creating a permanent draft.
I specifically chose this place because it stated it had a gym, but upon arrival I learned that more than 60% of it was closed because of water damage, with buckets on the floor all over, an evil stink of humidity as water was dripping from the ceiling. Ridiculous they still informed me they also charge 6£ for a day pass, despite only some weights and a bike and pool/titsy tiny sauna were accessible. Why did they not inform me? I would've cancelled my booking and stay at the Leewood, which is fab and has a functioning clean gym. I'm really annoyed and tempted to ask money back.
There's no room service during the stay unless one explicitly asks for it. Flaky wifi also, making it a fail for my business trip.
Total disappointment! I'll discourage anyone from staying there. "
