The Salt Loft - An Idyllic Hideaway In The Heart Of Fowey
Most certainly a romantic getaway for two, The Salt Loft is a beautiful, conveniently appointed apartment which is located right within the heart of Fowey, offering the most perfect escape for two. Tucked quietly away, it ensures a peaceful, private retreat yet within accessible reach of the town. Cleverly, stylishly designed containing bespoke, luxurious, comfortable furnishings and Lesley Holmes paintings. A 55” flat screen Smart TV in the lounge and bedroom. Lovingly restored and intuitively designed with its mood lighting, the overall accommodation has an intimate, exquisite, opulent feel. Collapse into the plush king size bed after feasting in one of the many fine restaurants that Fowey has to offer or switch on the lamp, crack open the bubby and cook up your favourite dish for the one you love in the well equipped kitchen.

SHOPPING
There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey such as Seasalt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse. But the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
THINGS TO SEE & DO
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon! If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey too.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
There is a secret sea-pool hidden away at Whitehouse Pier which is perfect for a refreshing paddle while looking out over the estuary. It can only be found at certain times, so check those tide times!
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic views, coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden have zip wires and giant air swings, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard is perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is open in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is very famous for its tin mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
Don’t forget to follow Fowey Homes Holidays on social media for inspiration on days out. When booking your trip with us, please feel free to ask for some personal recommendations - we’d love to help you discover the real hidden gems of Cornwall and get the most of out of your time in beautiful Fowey.
We do not have parking, but there is a loading bay right outside the house. Caffa Mill carpark is a 10 minute walk away.
There are three long stay car parks in Fowey, all run by Cornwall Council. You can get hourly, daily, weekly and rover passes on their website or using the Just Park app.
There is also a free car park opposite squire’s field on Park Road. There are no allocated spaces and can fill up quickly during the summer weeks.
During the winter (Oct 1st – Apr 30th) there is a 2-hour short-stay car park on the town quay. There is also a short stay car park all year round at Albert Quay.
The nearest train is Par Station, which has direct services from London Paddington and beyond. It's then a 10 minute taxi trip into Fowey.
The main bus stop in Fowey can be found outside the Safe Harbour pub, and the 24 & 25 First Kernow services stop here. There is also a fabulous bus stop at the end of Lankelly Lane, which has a yearly make-over by the people of Fowey to give a real enjoyable space while waiting for the bus.
Fowey also has its own town bus service which picks up from outside the church and runs to the car parks and some other destinations on request.
The closest airport is Newquay, which is around 30 minute away by car.
