About this property
HFH: Spectacular Home with Private Pool, Hot Tub, Views, Dog Friendly. Featured in Boston Herald!
Stay Like Royalty at this White Mountains Retreat with Pool, Hot Tub & Stunning Views! Featured in the Boston Herald on Mar 9, 2025! This truly one-of-a-kind, dog-friendly hilltop home is steeped in history, with land once owned by the legendary Robert Frost. Known as the "Holden Frost House," this grand estate blends old-world charm with modern comforts, offering a chateau-like ambiance and breathtaking panoramic views of the Presidential and Kinsman Ranges, Franconia Notch, and the towering peaks of Mount Washington, Mount Lafayette, and Cannon.
Step inside, and you'll be transported to a world of elegance and relaxation. The show-stopping Great Room features a soaring timber ceiling, a functional baby grand piano, and a cozy fireplace with a pellet insert—perfect for curling up with a book or enjoying a movie night. The adjoining sunroom-turned-game-room offers foosball, darts, and a pellet stove to keep you warm on chilly evenings. The updated kitchen is fully stocked with stainless steel appliances and a breakfast bar, while the dining area provides seating for eight with breathtaking mountain views.
~“It's at once cavernous and cozy; regal and rustic. You feel totally fine putting your feet up yet awed at the sense of history and beauty” writes Moira McCarty in the Boston Herald. “The kitchen is modern and bright, and the fully stocked spice cabinet was a nice surprise. Cooking a group meal there and then serving it at the round table next to a soaring window with views makes that work feel like vacation mode. You are alone up there, no direct neighbors to make noise or block your view. And yet, so much activity sits just a quick drive away. [...] Me? When I tuck into a spot as special as this, I want to savor it as much as possible. There's a game room to goof off in, a hot tub to ease ski muscles as you look out over the landscape, and a cozy pellet stove to play games of cribbage, read a book or those Frost letters, or just daydream in front of. In the summer you've got your own pool looking out across that view.” [Boston Globe, 03/09/25]~
Outside, the home boasts a rare outdoor saltwater swimming pool, a bubbling hot tub, a fire pit for roasting marshmallows under the stars, and an inviting swing overlooking the mountains. With EV charging, air conditioning, and luxurious memory foam mattresses, this property ensures a seamless and comfortable getaway. Whether you're skiing, hiking, or simply unwinding, this stunning retreat is the perfect home base for your White Mountains adventure!
Additional praise from visiting writers underscores the home's rare literary magic:
“The house appears at the end of a long drive and you see its sweeping views, and it hits you—this house was built as a testament to Poetry and to poets.”
“You do feel some privilege in the house, and that the property is unique… it does feel like a privilege to be there.”
“Also it didn't hurt that I could take them to such an elegant house. The Holden Frost House is the perfect place for a getaway with friends and family or a literary retreat. Everything was better than I imagined and the house was clean and state of the art.”
“Authors' Note – The Holden Frost House is a special place either for a literary event or family gathering or a great getaway with friends. We highly recommend this as a unique literary and memorable experience.”

We loved our stay here. It was convenient we could bring our dog. Home was clean and spacious. The roof was leaking into upstairs office. Could use a new roof.
We all had a great time. Everyone
was comfortably accommodated.
Lovely house, beautiful property.
The pool area could have been a little cleaner, but that was not a big flaw.

Fabulous!
This was our second summer here and we once again had a fabulous week! The view is mesmerizing, the pool perfect for ages 3 to 73, and the house is a perfect mix of old and new! Thank goodness for the AC as we were always comfortable. All 14 of us had a relaxing vacation and there is so much to do in the area that no one ever got bored! We can't wait for next year!
The house itself is beautiful. We brought some piano music and tried out the piano, swam in the pool, relaxed in the hot tub. We enjoyed the charming and funny notes about various things in the house. The view from the dining room is hard to beat. We did the Franconia Falls hike (/walk) and swam in the cold river, and checked out Flume Gorge. Kids & adults both loved this place. (Note there's no A/C, if you're planning a trip during a heat wave! )
It would be unfair to say it’s rare when a property comes as advertised but when a rental is exactly as described, especially one to accommodate 14 people ranging in age from 3 to 73, it is both a pleasant surprise and a relief. The Holden Frost House checked all our boxes and exceeded our expectations. The layout was perfect, almost inn-like, with a great room for everything from morning coffee and reading to evening TV watching and games. The bedroom layout allowed each family to have their own area, including the two oldest folks to have some seclusion at the north end of the house. The game room kept the kids occupied in the evening and was a nice option during the one rainy day we had.The kitchen and all the appliances were clean and updated. There was an abundance of dishes, glasses and silverware for use by our tribe that included five kids who had no problem using multiple glasses and dishes whenever the feeling moved them. Thank goodness for a dishwasher. The property is gorgeous, the pool refreshing, and the hot tub inviting for end-of-the-day relaxation. The location allowed the younger families to have day trips to Lost River Gorge and Santa’s Village. And just before the entrance of the driveway, is Robert Frost’s homestead and museum. The property managers were very responsive both before and during our visit. All in all, we could not have had a more perfect site for our annual extended family gathering and are planning to return next year.
We rented the home for our family of 8 (adult children and partners) plus a newborn to attend a wedding held nearby. The location was private and stunning yet close to the venue, and the space was more than adequate. We all enjoyed learning about the connection with Robert Frost!
We visited this warm, welcoming, historic property over Columbus Day weekend to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. We had 6 adults & 6 kids under the age of 12. The location of the home was incredible with gorgeous views of the white mountains and a short drive to a wonderful grocery store with organics and many of our favorite activities in the area: hiking, top of Loon Mountain visiting the Glacial Caves, and simply driving through the gorgeous foliage. We felt like being in the house was vacation enough. Plenty of space for 3 families to have their own nooks, the house was a delight to explore, and we all enjoyed a little hot tub at the end of the day. This house and the experience is truly a gem and with a pool I have to imagine it is a wonderful summer retreat. I will rent here again, and again, and again. Thanks for such a great home and for welcoming dogs!
The house was just as described! The view is unreal. Huge front yard. The pool and hot tub were awesome. The house was very peaceful and spacious! No complaints. Hope to be back again!
The house has been updated beautifully, but still maintains its old world “charm”. The bedrooms are quite large and the layout was great for three generations of our family to enjoy. Of course, “charm” comes with windows that are tough to open, bathroom doors that don’t lock, and no AC. But the beauty of the property makes up for all of those. The hot tub and fire pit being a few highlights. The kids took a few jumps into the pool. At this price point - It would be nice if the pool was heated given the temperamental New England weather. But All in all - a wonderful property, responsive team, and very likely our family will return in the future.
