Superb

The property was very clean and well presented. It had everything you need, making for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The views are stunning and the gardens benefit from lots of sun so the pool is an absolute blessing.

Recharge with family

Quinta Alegria was delightful - well-stocked and very comfortable, with a gorgeous, tropical landscape. Joy was responsive and hospitable, and she provides a lot of good information about the area - history and activities. The location is perfect with a great view, quick walk into the city, and good spot to watch the toboggans come whizzing down the hill. We had a terrific holiday!

Beautiful property, fantastic stay.

My sister said it was the best property, which felt like home, we have ever stayed at (and we have stayed at many properties over many years). We all agreed. The 6 of us adults loved it and Joy, the owner was very helpful e.g. good advice to book the restaurant on the Porto Santo ferry on the outbound route for our return journey back to Funchal.

Wonderful vacation

We had a wonderful week in Madeira; the house was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool a lot and the garden and surroundings was everything we hoped for. Joy is a great owner; she came at short notice if needed and were very helpful when we had questions about Madeira in general. We would definitely like to come back!

Great Rental!

This was a great house for our small group of adults. Adjacent to the Livermento toboggan station so every cab driver knows exactly where to take you! The host was exceptional and very helpful. The beds were a little firm for our liking, but that would be our only complaint. I would book again without hesitation.

Very beautiful Place

It was a very great time. The Place was beautiful. The House was clean and very nice. We come in the house and we become a present: A lunch box. This was a great idea. In this week the housekeeping come 3 times. It was a great Holiday. When we drive a other time to Madeira then we stay also in this house.

Quinta Alegria

We had an amazing time at this fantastic villa, located directly above the bottom station of the Monte Toboggan. The children loved the pool and we all appreciated the views over Funchal. We were able to look down on the firework display from the Atlantic Festival which was on in Funchal during the week of our stay. Some of us completed the Levada Moinho and Levada Nova circuit and the high level mountain traverse between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo whilst others took part in dolphin and whale watching of the coast. Thanks Joy for a brilliant time.

A wonderful host and fantastic villa

We stayed here for a week in mid-March. Joy was at the villa to receive us, showed us around and made us feel very welcome. The villa itself is impressively well renovated, spacious, well furnished and full of history. The views of Funchal are fantastic. The amenities are excellent and we made use of the heated pool and BBQ. We had a car in order to explore, but Uber is operational on the island and is a very reasonable service. The drivers were more than happy to have a chat about the local area. Funchal is not the easiest city to drive around yourself, as the roads are very narrow! I’d highly recommend staying at Quinta D'Alegria. The whole family loved it.

A beautiful villa in a perfect location

The villa was fabulous - very comfortable, beautifully decorated and furnished clean and in a perfect localtion. Close enough to Funchal centre to walk in down the very steep road and in a very quiet residential area. The bakery which is 5 minutes walk was a morning ritual for coffee and pastel de nata for breakfast. A mini supermarket only 15 minutes walk. The fridge and cleaning cupboards had a few supplies and a small supply of toiletpaper when we arrived which was a real bonus. Joy and her husband were delightful hosts - there if we needed their advice and good communication on arrival and departure. I would recommend this villa to everyone.

A dreamy Quinta

We had a wonderful two weeks visit in September 2009. The Quinta does provide excellent accommodation for a family or large party although it would have been amazing to have had one extra bathroom, there is a shower room outside close to the pool but to have had an additional one inside for a large family would have been easier. Joy lived up to her name ...such a gracious host, beautiful food was home cooked for us and my fathers diet was catered for with the utmost care.The neighborhood is amazing, going for early morning walks can be fun with the cockerels crowing, they can not be heard in the villa though so no need to worry. The church on the hill bells the time but thankfully not through the night it was such a comforting sound through the day. the views are lovely and the butterflies are so big they are a sight to see. The Quinta sits about half-way downhill between Monte and Funchal city center, it is possible to sample life in Madeira as though you are a resident rather than a tourist. the pool and garden are superb and we also had breakfast and evening meals outdoors every day we were there. The town center is around a 30 minute downhill walk, We would recommend a car or taxi or bus back up it is steep. A car would be a bonus unless you simply want to relax at the Quinta. We swam in the Lava pools in Porto Moniz and you must go to the top of the mountain at Pico de Areeiro Fantastic choose a cloudy day and you are above the clouds quite stunning. Accessing the dual carriageway and the island highway network takes only a few minutes but the locals do drive fast so beware. Could I go there again YES, would I like to live there YES a truly wonderful holiday and I would recommend the Quinta to anyone... Couples on Honeymoon or families.

Beyond Expectations!

We cannot say enough about our stay at Quinta D'Alegria. We had a terrific experience. The home is better in person than on the internet, as you cannot feel the warmth through the pictures. Everything is clean and well maintained. The garden and pool were beautiful. The owner, Joy, and her maid, Cisteltina, treated us like family instead of paying house guests. The location is spectacular. You are right in the middle of the residential part of Funchal. However, the way the house is set on the side of the hill, you have complete privacy and a spectacular view. Although we left before the New Year's Eve fireworks, we thought it would probably be the best vantage point on the island to see them. We had a beautiful meal made for us our first night there. Despite it being Christmas and having her own family, Joy helped us in making reservations for Christmas Eve dinner and tuk tuks to see the Christmas lights, and printed out a recipe for the traditional pork in wine Christmas dish I asked about. In addition, for a mere 40 euros, Cisteltina made us a delicious dinner of the traditional salted cod in a wonderful caserole dish. This was waiting in the oven after a day of touring. We started the week with a car, but found the hills and narrow streets hard to manage. We ended up returning the car the first day. Taxis were easy to find and Joy gave us the number to the most affordable company. She also gave us the name of a wonderful woman, Terrese, who took us on a day long tour of the island for a very affordable price. Our favorite restaurant was Armazem de Salt. Great ambience and food. O'Classico was also very good. We were not as impressed with Riso. Although the ambiance was great, food was not. May have been due to serving a set menu on Christmas Eve, but all five us agreed that it was not a good meal. Le Jardin in old Funchal was also very good. Madeira itself is a beautiful place and a great combination of things to see, but not too much to see, so you can just relax and soak up the ambiance. I would and will highly recommend this home to friends and family.

Joy la propriétaire est formidable. Elle nous a accueillis avec toutes les explications utiles et de la nourriture pour notre arrivée. La maison est vraiment grande et pleine de charme. Brilliant Quinta, setting fantastic and hosts wonderful

There’s not much more to say after the review title! We stayed the week before Christmas and had a lovely family time. We requested that the pool heating be set to maximum and this was worth it because the children loved the pool. Also, Joy, the owner prepared a sumptuous meal for our first night (it was superb!) and supplied a very comprehensive welcome pack. Thank you Joy and Louis - we hope to return to your lovely place soon 😀

Staying at Monte

The property has wonderful views but the Garage is quite difficult to use as it is on the road of the corbs and this is very steep. The property was very clean but we had Problems with the local millipedes !!. Joy was very good and helped us a lot and organised a new oven as the existing one broke within 4 Hours. The local bus Service was excellent, cheap and only 100m away near the local bakery which is very good.There are 2 Restaurants nearby.

Classic luxury accommodation

For us, a luxury holiday revolves around 3 things; a qulity location, good food (and drink) and accommodation with a "wow" factor. Madiera provided the first, the many bars and restaurants of Funcal the second and Quinta D'Alegria fulfilled our every expectation in terms of a "wow" factor. A beautiful property set within an equally stunning garden......we spent a month here and loved it......Many thanks Joy!

Highly recommend

My wife and I enjoyed the villa and location so much 3 years ago that we decided to bring our whole family back last August ( some stayed elsewhere) for a special anniversary Location ,views and true home comforts — plus Joy went out of her way to help arrange a special celebration for us A great restaurant close by with traditional music was a plus All around fabulous And yes Joy is also a fabulous cook

Everything we could have wished for.

This is a lovingly restored house with a very beautiful, functional garden with swimming pool and the added bonus of THAT VIEW. We loved living amongst the locals who were very friendly and welcoming. Our age range was 14 years to 76 years and we all coped with the challenge of the steep roads. A massive thank you to Joy and all her staff for looking after us so well - we wanted for nothing. I would return in a heart beat and can highly recommend this lovely house to anyone thinking of visiting Funchal.

Beautiful, character property in an elevated position overlooking Funchal.

This is a beautiful and tasteful place to stay. Light, airy rooms. Wonderful garden filled with wildlife and a superb heated pool. There are far reaching views over Funchal, perfect with a glass of wine.

A Beautiful Quinta overlooking Funchal

A lovely Quinta, well equipped, beautifully furnished and comfortable, with fantastic views over Funchal town and harbour. The generous welcome pack was much appreciated. We received a warm welcome from Ciseltina the housekeeper as Joy was away when we arrived, but it was nice to meet her at the end of our holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here on this beautiful island..

Beautiful house

We had an amazing stay in this beautiful house. Everything was perfect. Cozy and spacious, great view and garden. Simply the best place to come back to after hiking or exploring other spots on Madeira. We only ate out one night - the rest of the evenings were spent at "home". Joy was very helpfull and kind - really have nothing at all to critisize, everything was great.

Very comfortable and homely

We had a wonderful 2 wk stay, made very special by the care and attention of the administration team, very warm welcome of the owner who gave very helpful advise on where to go and what to do and the servicing of the accommodation during our stay. We loved the spaciousness and the views, used the BBQ and ate almost all our meals outdoors. Local transport and markets were varied and excellent. Eating out was very enjoyable, reasonably priced and tasty. Local stores were convenient, bread was super. What more could you want for your holiday. Only neg. comment - anyone with walking disabilities would find access to the very steep road quite difficult.

Excellent Property

Quinta D'Alegria was an absolute delight to stay in. Not only was it superbly appointed but the attention to detail was much appreciated. The 'extras' in the kitchen, and bathrooms made our stay much more comfortable. To top it off the owner Joy and Celestina the housekeeper went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The meals cooked for us by them were delicious and well worth it. The villa is positioned above the town and has fantastic views from the terrace. The garden is beautiful and well cared for and the swimming pool well maintained. There is a fantastic bakery a two minute walk away! We would not hesitate to recommend the villa.

Stunning property
