We absolutely loved not only the remoteness of this beautiful cottage but also it’s quirkiness.

We absolutely loved not only the remoteness of this beautiful cottage but also it’s quirkiness. Only 2 downsides which would definitely not put us off returning but worth noting :-Towels aren’t supplied as standard so bring your own and also we felt for the remoteness of the cottage, the size of the fridge/freezer was a little inadequate. We fortunately had a large cool box with us to keep drinks cold as we had brought a large amount of supplies for the week which filled the fridge. Bed was comfortable and liked the bath and shower, plenty of hot water.

The barn is much larger than the photos would have you think.

The barn is much larger than the photos would have you think. It is isolated along tricky roads. I would advice arriving in daylight. But what you get is stunning scenery all round. In the most amazing building. I should really give it a poor rating to put you off. Because once you've been here you will want to return and there are only 52 weeks a year.

The barn was much bigger than we'd expected with a lovely secure garden for the dog.

The barn was much bigger than we'd expected with a lovely secure garden for the dog. The weather was a bit changeable but the barn was warm (even without lighting the fire in the lounge). It was slightly disconcerting when the biomass boiler came on at odd times of the day when it was supposed to come on at midday. It's very noisy! That was our only slight grumble. The cottage is in a fantastically remote location and is perfect for a relaxing holiday. The scenery is lovely and the walks nearby are wonderful. The nearest shop is about a 15 minute drive away and there are several pubs for food within a drive of 20 minutes or so. We enjoyed the food at the Bower House. We would definitely recommend and will hopefully go back.

We had a lovely weekend at Birkerthwaite Barn . The cottage itself was very clean , comfortable and well equipped. The location is stunning and perfect for getting away from it all . We hope to come back again soon .
