“Stayed at Cabin Kai 4 (Dec 26–30, 2025). Affordable and located in a beautiful, peaceful area with free parking, water, and Wi-Fi (weak).
Major concern: No window coverings for the floor-to-ceiling bathtub window or windows above the bed and coffee bar, resulting in serious privacy issues while bathing and sleeping. This was very uncomfortable.
Remote location (45 minutes from Hilo); a car is required. No cellphone reception. No nearby restaurants or shops. Towels were not very clean, and……

“This is a guest house beside the owner's place. The room was clean and spacious and the weather at the end of March was so comfortable that we didn't have to switch on the AC at night. However, it did get very hot in the day so we opened the windows to let the hot air out. Also, a few very cute and friendly cats also live on the property. Loved the place!”

“Think of it as luxury camping and you'll be happy. If your idea of comfort is umbrella drinks by the pool, you will not. Personally, I loved it. But it's not for everyone.
This is a rustic cabin in the jungle. 4.5 miles off the main road, 2.2 miles of it is dirt (well maintained, regular cars not a problem). 15 minute drive to nearest civilization (the part of the description being in the middle of a historic town is inaccurate - it's 7 miles outside a historic town).
