Nice old style hotel. Room was comfortable. Great views across the water. Currently being renovated so no restaurant and reception is rarely staffed during the day.

The place is so dirty and under renovations, didn’t feel safe at all. When I wanted to cancel my booking I was told i will not get a refund, that’s daylight robbery. The property was advertised and there was no mention of it being under renovation.

It's an old hotel that could be very nice and probably was at one time. Carpeting and wallpaper very worn. Bathroom was large and clean which was nice but faucet handles fell off when used, toilet paper roll kept falling off, etc. TV didn't work and we were told someone would come check it out which never happened. Restaurant was closed so had to walk into the town every morning for breakfast and coffee. Supposedly new owners who plan on fixing it up - would be interested if that happens.

Terrible room and good luck trying to check-in.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews even if I have a bad experience but this hotel is really terrible, if it was a cheap rate you could understand, but we were knocking on almost £300 a night. Arrived there at 2.00pm, the time that check-in opens. No one there, reception has a phone and a note to call for assistance. There was 3 numbers, first two didn’t work. Third I got through to someone who said they would just ‘pop down’. 15 mins nobody arrived, tried calling the numbers again, nobody answers. Tried again and again and nobody responds. Ended up waiting almost an hour in their reception which has no wifi, no phone signal (so no 4G or mobile calls can be made), so sat waiting doing nothing. A guy arrives through the front door and gives us a key, no apologies, no small talk, just room number and here’s your key, just make sure you know there will be no breakfast. Room was terrible, wallpaper peeling off everywhere, heater massively dented, shower head held together by tape, windows rotting and permanently open, the tiny tv didn’t work, everything metal in the bathroom rusted. To be fair, the mattress was relatively comfortable but a very dated room that needs a lot of work but has been neglected for a long time. This isn’t just one room, this is the second time I have stayed there and the room (and reception experience) was just the same. The problem is that there is a lack of hotel rooms in Shetland and so you end up having no choice if you leave it late to book.

The Queens, is a timewarp but in a good way! The space is clean, comfortable warm and inviting! Absolutely fantastic service, if I return to Lerwick I will definitely staying at Queens!

Hotellet var som vi forventet, 3 stjernes. Men greit nok, små rom og nyoppusset bad, og en enkel frokost. Hotellet trenger nok en liten oppussing, men er det gammelt så skal det jo være det. Ellers er det generellt irriterende at Hotels.com legger på 15% på hotellets pris. Og det skjer hver gang, og etter 10 ganger så skal Hotels.com være så generøse at de gir 1 gratis overnatting og kaller det en bonusnatt. Den har jeg jo betalt selv, og mer enn verdien av den såkalt gratisnatten. Derfor er det lite fristende å benytte denne portal for kommende reiser.

Medelmåttigt hotell med centralt läge.
Gammalt och slitet, små rum, mycket heltäckningsmattor och varmt på rummet.Bra städning på rummet. Slarvigt efterhåll av renlighet vid frukosten. Stressad personal vid frukost. Hyfsad service vid frukost och i reception, Frukosten var inte så mycket i min smak, Ingen färsk frukt eller några bär till flingor och liknande. Ingen kaka eller liknande till kaffet. Inget pålägg till brödet förutom marmelad. Medskickad frukost sista dagen var ett plus.

Tired disappointing stay
The decor was tired & dirty - there was dust on the pictures & frames. The decor was tired & needed updated in the bedroom there had been gyprock put over the badly plastered cracks in the room there was a smell of dampness wet root nowhere to meet relatives & bar was open from 5pm & last orders was 9.45pm food was ok but menu was repetitive no variation

There is an almost Victorian atmosphere to this place - all dark wood, subdued ochre paintwork and 19th century portraits and paintings in elaborate gilt frames adorning the walls. The rooms are modern enough though, but do heed the advice given about the use of the large key fob to switch on the electrics. The bathroom is equipped with a shower but not the walk-in variety, so care needs to be taken. However, it is simple enough to operate. It is located by the old harbour, handy for the town centre and actually overlooking the sea on one side. It overlooks Commercial St on the other but there is not great problem with noise. Staff are friendly and helpful and there was no problem about checking in earlier than the specified time. A good restaurant for an evening meal and a buffet breakfast where you could eat as much as you want for a day of Shetland exploration.

No lift, breakfast need to be upgraded
Positives: 1. Close to central, 2. harbour view, 3. some very helpful receptionists such as Rod and another young lady. 4. Judit, the waitress, in the breakfast gives 5 star service. 5. Chef Dave is very welcoming in the restaurant who help us to warm up our take out foods. Negatives: 1. After full night ferry journey they dont allow you early check in. 2. They do not have any secure storage for guests. 3. No lift for upper floores as all guests rooms are in upper level. 4. The receptionist Marna (also a manager) is terribly bad behaved and annoyingly non cooperative and unhelpful. She said we can leave our luggages in front of the reception area and she will take care of it until we check in by 2pm but we cand around 12pm to grab our computer bag and she was not there. It could have been someone else to take our computer!

Old-established hotel needing overhaul
We stayed 10 days in a 3-bed room on the top floor. Nice for us 2 - for 3 it would be cramped. Views from windows on 2 sides of the harbour and Bressay. Wallpaper starting to peel. Beds hard. Breakfast not great. Good selection of cooked items, but no cold meat, fish, cheese or morning rolls. Set out badly, concentrated in one corner through which serving staff also pass. On Sunday they had run out of orange juice; there was none till Tuesday! The last morning they ran out of yoghurt - the waitress said there were a lot of people - 41! The hotel is 5 minutes by car from a 7/11 Tesco 7-day supermarket which sells the same brands as the hotel serves! Restaurant staff were willing but obviously not properly trained. Apart from the room staff and one waitress (often alone for breakfast service) none of the staff seemed really interested or committed. Bar closes at 22.45. The toilet is down a spiral staircase. Access to our room if leaving the bar after 11pm was to the street and back in through the front door. We only learned from a disgruntled night porter that our room key also fits the front door. They have no parking, but we always managed to find a space nearby. Staff blamed some shortcomings (no lift, early bar closure) on legal reasons. We doubted this. They are not local and had been told to say this? I was last in this hotel in 1973, when it was the top hotel in Lerwick. My impression is that it has been on the slide ever since, trading on its name and location.

Decent stay
Second stay in a fortnight and, although I had a larger room, the single beds were much less comfortable than the double I had previously. The view over the sea was spectacular and there was a Viking Longship moored just outside the room. The Wifi was good (important as the mobile signal wasn't!) but the small dressing table, squashed just inside the door, wasn't the best place to work. Breakfast was OK, although if the hotel was busy, the fresh cooked items were off the menu.

A bit dated, but decent enough
Staying on business in Shetland, and spent 4 nights at the Queens. I felt as if I had stepped back into the 79's, with very dark décor and a feel of age.... Staff service was excellent - not to be faulted, and although the menu felt limited, the food was generally excellent, as were the local beers. The room felt a bit cramped, but the double bed was comfortable enough and, despite being on the top floor, the shower was powerful and hot. Workspace was limited and there weren't enough mains plugs - none near the bed for my phone and only 2 at the dressing table. WiFi was very good - useful since Lerwick appears to be a not-spot for the 3 network. Would I stay again? Well, I'm back next week for more work!

Avoid
Doors constantly slamming because the door closers and lock keeps are poorly fitted. Breakfast waiter is totally clueless; no orange juice, coffee, sugar, milk, cup, saucer, tea spoon......... The female receptionist is officious and totally unpleasant! The two best members of staff are the two young ladies from mainland Europe, well done.

Due to a mainline powercut which lasted two and a half hours we were unable to make coffee, tea, toast, etc. This also meant that we could not put out in our chilled unit any fruit juice or milk as it would not have been the correct temperature. Our staff were doing their best to deal with an emergency situation and we did provide cooked breakfast to all residents who required it due to having gas cookers. Doors slamming are outwith the control of the hotel staff, all our door keepers meet fire standards and actually did what they should do on the day of this emergency situation.
