As ever, a gorgeous stay at this gorgeous hotel that feels like home from home. It's really walkable to the station, restaurants and shops but is tucked away enough to be quiet in a sometimes chaotic city. It's our favourite place to stay in London now and we will definitely be back.

The staff are excellent: very helpful. However, the rooms leave a lot to be desired. They have been furnished as cheaply as possible, in the mistaken belief that ‘shabby chic’ is a good idea. It is not: something is either shabby or chic. It cannot be both. Room 2 is small - would be a very tight squeeze for two. It has a horrible, cheap metal chair at the desk - very uncomfortable. The desk is a piece of rough timber, with the edge shaved off. The curtains are filthy and several hooks have come undone, so the curtains do not cover the window. The air conditioning is ineffective and has been so governed down as to be barely acceptable - even on 16C and maximum fan setting. The bed is ok, bathroom ok with a good shower.
