「Stayed at Cabin Kai 4 (Dec 26–30, 2025). Affordable and located in a beautiful, peaceful area with free parking, water, and Wi-Fi (weak).
Major concern: No window coverings for the floor-to-ceiling bathtub window or windows above the bed and coffee bar, resulting in serious privacy issues while bathing and sleeping. This was very uncomfortable.
Remote location (45 minutes from Hilo); a car is required. No cellphone reception. No nearby restaurants or shops. Towels were not very clean, and...

「This was amazing! Great staff, great location AND there's even a swimming hole (5 min walk, if that) with a waterfall! I've never stayed in a shared house before, but this one has spoiled me! It's close enough to be able to drive to all the good tourist spots. Oh, and hopefully you're there for the "big" farmers market on Saturdays. If I get back to the Big Island I'll be coming back here! Thank you for the great time!」

「I spent a week here and can’t wait to return. The location was dauntingly remote looking at a map. But anywhere worth going to on this side of the island requires driving anyway. The walkable nude beach was a big highlight. The hot tub and outdoor shower was also a great touch.」
