A base to sleep

If you want a base to sleep, the house has all you need. Would not describe as quiet or calm. You need earplugs to block the chorus of dogs who bark, evening, night & early morning. You need GPS grid numbers to find small lane up to house. You cannot see it from the closest road. Cannot park outside the house. Need nerves of steel parking on 1 in 3 slope if wanting to park closer to house. Had “No stop” note on car. The images are cleverly taken, all lights on, windows & doors open. You can see the sea, a small triangle from upstairs shower room. ‘Close beach’ is accessible not to swim, ok if surfing. Windows downstairs tinted & look onto banana plantation, initially novel. Windows & door upstairs have permanent obscuring shades. House appears light but is actually dark. Not sure about ‘all the comfort’? Veranda has great view but only direct sun for few hours. Need insect repellant for the mosquitos. Not a home, not a place to sit and relax in. A place to sleep, maybe eat.

Lovely little house

The house itself was well clean and tidy and had everything you needed. I think someone should be there to meet you as it was very hard to find and I couldn’t find it myself. After dragging my suitcase (24kilos!) round the very steep roads for 30mims in the hot sunshine I finally found a local builder who knew where it was and he put me in his car and took me there. It’s up a tiny alley way and not signposted. Also the dropped pin I had was not accurate so there was no way I would have found it by myself. The road it is on is very steep and you need to be pretty mobile if you haven’t got a car. Also there are 3 restaurants nearby but no shops. I wouldn’t stay here again without a car as the taxis are very expensive and you have to phone one each time you go out. There is no public transport that I could find. There are no buses that stop there. The house is amongst the banana plants with makes it quite dark. This does mean it stays quite cool however and the upstairs terrace allows you to sunbathe. The only other reason I wouldn’t stay again is the mosquitoes. As you are in the banana trees there are a lot and I got quite bitten. This meant I couldn’t open the windows either as there is no mesh screen on them to prevent the mosquitoes coming in. So I kept the doors/windows shut at all times. To summarise the house is really cute and clean and tidy but no shops and mosquitoes and the very steep road mean I wouldn’t stay again.

Very dark place

Stay was okay but not really great - the house is very dark, also with all window blinds open. The shower smells really hard, urgently need to change the shower curtain or clean deeply. General cleaning was okay but also not really 100% clean. TV did not work on the first day, but was fixed fast by maintenace. Apart of this, we wouldnt stay again in Ponta do Sol: no infrastructure, no choice of (good) restaurants, no shop and by the way no delivery app is working as described by you (Nor Glovo, nor Uber Eats nor BringEat - all apps says that Ponta do Sol is not a delivery area!)

a great house where you immediately feel at home. complete furnishings, nice shower and great terrace. quiet location and lovely neighbors who came to bring us bananas and avacados. great base to discover the island. good and fast app contact with the rental company

Great stay, lovely house, would recommend!

Absolutely lovely stay in a great house, would very much recommend to anyone wanting an escape and a base to explore the beautiful island. The house is just as advertised and the balcony is beautiful, very secluded and gets the sun all day so great to relax/sunbathe on. An Island Apart were very responsive and helped us locate the house in first instance too. It is much quieter than in Funchal and so it is a nice escape but you will likely need a car to explore the island and go to restaurants in the evening. One recommendation would be to ensure that you rent a car well in advance as the cars on the island can get booked up and so the prices go up too! Whilst we did use public transport, the buses from Oscar's House to Funchal are relatively infrequent (3 times a day) and take an hour or so and so it is much easier with a car or if not order a taxi using either the Bolt app or the Taxiin app if you plan to have a drink too. Exploring the island much easier with a car and so much more freedom in your day if you have one, just don't be surprised if you need to use 1st gear to get up the steep hills! We very much enjoyed eating at Zino's palace which is a 2 minute walk from the house (we went 3 times). The staff there are all friendly, the views are great and the food was really tasty - it was often quiet too and you can just walk home afterwards so definitely give it a go. Other things to do: Pico de areiro to Pico ruivo for sunrise walk, a dolphin tour (VIP dolphins), the wine tour (Viator), buggy adventure (trail4fun), piscinas naturais (sunnier than Porto Moniz) and loads of other walks, viewpoints and adventures but you'll have a great time either way and ddefinitelyrecommend An Island Apart and Oscar's House

accommodation nice

the company who is running the place does not care about you, the only time we had good communication was when they were asking for our payment We had issues with the cookstove and wanted to hear how to operate it but instead we were notified to look into THE drawer which did NOT contain any reference as to how we could operate it. We were also advised that there is a cell number we could get in touch with the company but only a Portuguese answering service replied and we left our phone number never to be called. The instructions to reach the Oscar house was only good if you had a taxi driver bring you there and not if you have a rental car and need to find the steep-sloped and narrow entrance to the AirB&B needless to say we did not have a parking space and needed to park our car on the street down from the house we rented.

Super supportive staff that helped us any time!

We really enjoyed the house. It's not the easiest to reach (need to get used to the steep streets and parking there), but the terrace is absolutely amazing and the house very cozy. We were there for 3 weeks and really enjoyed it! At one point we had a problem with the shower, but it was resolved he same day by the staff! <3

Beautiful house!

We had a wonderful stay at Oscar's House, it's beautifully located, very clean with modern intertior. Everything was as decribed and it has a stunnig view on banana plants and a waterfall. Communication with the host was easy and fast and while there we looked at their other listings and decided to try them when visiting again. We can absolutely recommend booking Oscar's House for your vacation!

Newly built, spacious House with great comfort

We had a great time at Oscars House. Everything is new. The House helds all the Equipment for 2 persons. The kitchen ist fully equipped. We also sat Outside. My friend was there for the Second time because it ist so great.
