Just what we imagined!

Great views and great property. Just steps from the coastal path, a beautiful beach and only 15 mins walk to the lodge. Will definitely return!

Amazing Ocean Views

There are no words to describe the amazing view right out the front windows . Great beaches are within walking distance. Surfing in the waves right out in front of the house. I found everything to be very clean and tidy. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed to prepare a meal and make your stay comfortable The primary bedroom was large with the same amazing view as the front room . Bed was very comfortable. My son and his lady friend stayed in a guest room with a partial ocean view and were very satisfied. There is a work space for those who may need to do a little We will definitely rebook this vacation rental again soon.

The perfect spot!

Bowsprit Retreat was perfect for us and our dog! We had the best time celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday at this house with its ocean views! It was a perfect and relaxing experience, even in the rain. The house had everything we needed and then some. Working with vacasa was an awesome, easy experience!

A treasure of a house

Our family has come to Sea Ranch for over two decades now, renting a dozen different houses and always loving the experience. The last few times, we've stayed at this place on Bowsprit close. We love this house. It is absolutely perfect! Right on the bluff top and on the trail by the water front. No noise, except for the gentle giant The Pacific and its deep and powerful breathing. We love the house location, and a big highlight for us is that there is an enclosed garden where we can let the dog run around and sniff everything! Whenever we come there, she recognizes the place and becomes exuberant with joy (just like us)! We are so grateful to the owners for making their lovely house available!

Wonderful dog-friendly home

Bowsprit is now our new favorite Sea Ranch rental! Fabulous location, very comfy and relaxed home, with everything you need - our dog was in heaven and didn't want to leave. People said they felt the house needed upgrading, but there is new furniture and comfy bedding and a well-appointed kitchen, so the fact that it is an older home wasn't a drawback at all. The house was very clean as well. We look forward to coming back to stay often!

Expected more for the price

Home is comfortable and clean and has a great view. It is "showing it's age" in many ways, and we were frustrated with a non-functional jacuzzi, complete lack of wood for the wood stove, and baseboard heating that made it impossible to control tempurature in the bedrooms

Un acceptable amount of Mold and quality of property

I have stayed at VRBO’s multiple times and never have I experienced a property with mold or as run down as this property. This was one of the most expensive properties and VRBO should not have this as a recommended property. Also the owners should stop renting the property until they deal with the mold that was in multiple rooms. The BBQ was un functional as well. If it were not for the ocean front view this place would be considered a dump.

- [ ] Tv didn’t work someone had to come out to make work. - [ ] Floors where dirty Under the rugs ( Many Rugs!) they only cleaned around chairs n furniture but not under any of them. - [ ] Very old place!! - [ ] Not Covid cleaned - [ ] Hot tub works, beds clean sheets baths cleaned - [ ] Sponge disgusting had to buy a new one - [ ] Somebody came into the yard to water something n my mom could of tripped on it if I didn’t move it. It was not there when we first got there so this is an invasion of our privacy while renting the place. They should have told us they were coming here!! - [ ] They came over n took out the trash , which they should have told us they were coming over!! - [ ] Saw a mouse inside the house! Also. Ants. I hate ants The view was beautiful n Gourgous

Wonderful views, not so great of a home

The Pros: This house is perfectly located with incredible views of the coast. The living room is very comfortable and you never get tired of the views. The house is easily accessible, well equipped kitchen, and comfortable jacuzzi. The cons: The house needs urgent work and improvements. The blinds don't work in the kitchen and bedrooms, the windows are so old/stained that you can't see anything from the bedrooms. The sliding doors and screen are stuck and impossible to open/close. The beds are uncomfortable and mattresses/beddings need to be replaced, the kitchen while its well-stocked, is very old and everything is dated. There's a lot of broken/torn furniture and bedding which makes everything unpleasant. The tv/audio equipment are very old and some not working. One of the reasons visitors come to Sea Ranch are for its impeccable design and style, and this home lacks all of the beauty of Sea Ranch, it is very higgledy piggledy, far from tasteful design. For added context: We were placed here by Vacasa as a make-good offer as our original beautiful Sea Ranch rental suddenly became cancelled 2-weeks before checking in. Vacasa was difficult to work with and unresponsive to our dissatisfaction.

Great Location, But…

Pros: Outstanding location on the bluff, above Black Point Beach. The house’s deck faces the bluff northwest, so summertime sunsets are perfect, unobstructed, and 90 degrees to your deck chair on the deck. You literally don’t need to move. Very pet-friendly. The meadow between the deck and the bluff is about 50 yards; long enough to throw the ball out for your dog. It’s a 5-10 minute walk south to the Stairs leading to the beach. House is set back off the roadway, and private. Hot tub worked great and we used it nearly every day, for a 10 night stay. Kitchen is relatively well-outfitted. Internet was fast and reliable. Cons: House was…very dirty. Cobwebs and insect cocoons in the bathroom. Two used Kleenex on the floor under the bed in the master. Window exteriors had not been cleaned in weeks, and the terrific views were obscured by a thick film (already mentioned by other reviewers). My wife cleaned the window exteriors on day 1 and they lasted a full week. The window in the master has still not been repaired (Seal is broken; cloudy throughout; See similar reviews from years ago) and no amount of cleaning will turn it back into a window. The garage looks like you could totally park your cars in there, if it wasn’t full of construction materials, old appliances and junk, so it’s totally out of play. A side storage area is currently used as a dumping ground for a rusty BBQ. The working, advertised BBQ is in such a sad, rusty state the igniters won’t light it. Tried to light it with matches or a lighter, but there are none inside the house with the fireplace, so to use the BBQ, we had to buy a lighter in town, 10 miles north. The house is very dated and probably still has the same original 1976 bathroom floor in the master bath. This property has so much potential. It is in a fantastic location, but it is a shame it has been neglected and under-maintained for what appears to be a very long time. We’ve stayed at about 8 different vacation houses in Sea Ranch, from kooky-kitschy to clean and modern. All were great experiences. This house was frankly the worst maintained and just kooky-dirty, and not in a family cabin kind of way. Used Kleenex on the floor tends to be a deal breaker…

A few quirks but would stay here again

We spent a girls weekend at this property and overall had a really great time. We would come back for the view alone as we spent 90% of our time here on the deck. The check in process is cumbersome. We didn’t know till the day before we had to drive to the property management office to pick up a “welcome packet” which in reality was a parking pass you hang in your window. This seems like an unnecessary step for the renter to do. This “packet” could have easily been left at the property by the property manager when they come before we arrived to do things like turn on the hot tub. They also didn’t tell us we were able to check in early till 12pm, but we weren’t planning on leaving till 12 anyways because it’s a long drive. If we had known early we would have taken advantage of the extra time. But that’s minor. The property itself is nice, and very well stocked. My only complaint is the house definitely needs some updating. Paint is peeling, the flooring is missing around the second toilet, and there’s mold in random places (it’s right on the water so it’s constantly damp, so I’m sure mold is a constant issue). I also wish they would wash the windows that face the water before each stay. All of that being said, we had a great time. You absolutely cannot beat the view, and although the house needs some updating, it was comfortable and worked perfectly for our stay. We would stay here again!

Bowsprit Retreat - June 2024

This home has to rank as one of our favorites in Sea Ranch. It had a great location - right on the bluff and more or less equidistant between Black Point Beach and Pebble Beach. It has expansive windows both in the living room and the master suite that give great views of the ocean and the sunset. The kitchen was relatively well appointed (except coffee filters!) and the beds were quite comfortable relative to other Sea Ranch homes we have rented. The small suggestions for improvement we had were (1) the furniture needed vacuuming. The living room couches had dog hair and crumbs on them when we arrived and made me allergic in the evenings; (2) the trees around the home - especially the tree that looms over the hot tub - needed some pruning. The hot tub was a bit of a disappointment because of this tree as you couldn't see much of the sky because the tree has grown out over the hot tub, which was not clear from the images; (3) the windows (with those incredible views) needed cleaning when we arrived. We were initially just bummed about it but then discovered a hose on the deck in front of the windows. One quick rinse of the windows and the views returned and were spectacular for the duration. All in alll a great stay that we would definitely want to return to in future. Thank you!

Bowsprit - checks lots of boxes

We are a group of retired women who have enjoyed many visits to beautiful Sea Ranch and have stayed at many lovely properties over the years. Bowsprit is a favorite, not just for the amazing unobstructed water views, but it is dog friendly. The enclosed front yard is fully fenced and a safe place to let your dog roam freely for those early morning or late night visits (don’t forget to “pick up” each day). Bowsprit is cozy and comfortable and won’t disappoint.

Beautiful location

This home is in a prime Sea Ranch location...right next to the bluff. Ocean sounds all day and night. The home itself is comfortable and adequate, although the decor is a bit tired. The main living area lighting isn't good enough for evening reading and required multiple individual lights be turned on, but in-bed reading was ok. There was a power outage and the provided lantern didn't work. Overall it's a solid B+.

Gorgeous property

Sit in your living room and hear the ocean, watch for whales. Kitchen well appointed. Perfect for a walk along the cliffs and close to Sea Ranch Lodge.

Unbeatable View!

Very comfortable one level house. Beautiful view of the ocean from almost every window! Everything worked. Nice fenced yard for the dog. Overall, a great house to spend a weekend.
