Soon after seeing it in the ocean like a steel kraken, seaside heights mayor Bill Akers remarked that he'd like to see if it could be left there as a tourist attraction. He was roundly criticized for the comment, as the owners of the coaster would like to get it back into action and are trying to figure how to return it to its grounded location. In January 2013, a local man boated out to the structure, climbed up it, and mounted a flag. For some reason, they arrested him. The flag is still up there, and it seems like a good addition to me. It may be months before it's pulled out of the brine, but until then, as the mayor wanted, it made me drive into town. I surely won't be the last.
