About this property

Browne’s Mtn Retreat, South Hill Views and Nature

  • Experience peaceful privacy and tranquil views at a Northwest Contemporary home surrounded by nature. Feel away from it all on Browne's Mountain, yet be minutes to South Hill restaurants, shopping, and amenities. Just 9 miles from downtown Spokane. Spacious for family and friends groups up to 8. Explore the region from this scenic home base or simply settle in and unwind. Start your day with coffee on the deck, play games on site or venture out to activities in the area, and return to evenings relaxing in the hot tub, soaking up sunset views.

    The space

The 3800 sq ft, 4-bed, 3.5-bath home is custom Northwest Contemporary architecture with natural finishes, vaulted ceilings, and huge windows letting in natural light. The floorplan is spacious with ample room to gather and plenty of space to spread out, featuring bedrooms and bathrooms on every level. Well-suited for multi-generational families, friend groups, corporate travelers, or holiday gatherings.

Special rates for 7+ nights are automatically applied to weekly or monthly stays.

Set in a private hillside neighborhood of similar homes on acreage and located on a private 1.5-mile gravel road, this custom view home is one of the original residences built at the top of Browne's Mountain (3177 ft elevation).

It is located in Spokane's desirable South Hill area, positioned where wildlife thrives year-round. Deer, quail, wild turkey, and other native species (even moose) frequent the property and linger to enjoy the small pond, grassy areas, and fruit trees, making it a memorable home base for experiencing and exploring the Pacific Northwest and Spokane-CDA area.

The layout works well for 1-2 while being roomy for up to 8. All primary living areas are on the main floor in addition to one bedroom adjacent to a full bath, offering one-level living potential inside the home. The upper level is a dedicated master floor with a king bed, balcony, and full bath with dual sinks, a jetted tub, rain shower, and walk-in closets.

The chef's kitchen features two sinks, a dual-fuel range, and all cooking essentials to prepare meals at home. Several types of coffee makers, including a Nespresso machine, are provided for your enjoyment. The dining room is open to the kitchen and living room.

There is a dedicated workspace with two desks, task lighting, a monitor, and a printer. We provide dedicated line-of-sight, low-latency internet for remote working. There is one 65" smart TV in the expansive family room. The deck features Adirondack rocking chairs, a grill, an outdoor table, and a hydrotherapy hot tub (always drained, cleaned, refilled & sanitized for your stay).

The property features five acres of private space with mature trees, a fire pit, and a sports court equipped with two basketball hoops and a portable recreational pickleball setup. Enjoy room to throw a Frisbee in wide-open spaces.

    Important to Note
ID verification is required for all adult guests on the reservation.
A short-term rental contract is required for all reservations.
The home is not childproofed. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to oversee the safety and security of their child(ren).

Inquiries regarding corporate relocation and insurance placement custom rates are welcome. Long stay rates include utilities, seasonal management (yard maintenance, road and driveway snow plowing), and amenity upkeep (hot tub maintenance, professional house cleaning).

    Guest access

You have access to the entire home, acreage, and private road for scenic walking.

South Hill grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, gas stations, transit, and amenities are just a drive down the mountain (1.5 miles).

To keep our rates lower for 1-2, our base rate covers 1-2 guests. For more than 2 guests, a $50 per guest daily fee is automatically included in the reservation rate when booking a family or group stay.

The large driveway comfortably fits 4 vehicles. Our road association provides private road maintenance and snow plowing regularly. For seasonal weather, AWD or 4WD is advised.

    Location and drive times

    Other things to note
Spokane is favored for its 4 distinct seasons, with lilacs blooming I. Spring, sunny heat in summer, breezy autumn leaves in fall, and snow in winter. The Pacific Northwest and Spokane-CDA region are known for abundant recreation.

    • In spring, summer, and fall: Explore hiking trails and swim, float, kayak, paddleboard, and fish in the beautiful lakes and rivers in the area. (1) Spokane River, (2) Lake Coeur d'Alene, (3) Lake Pend Oreille, (4) Priest Lake, and (5) St. Joe River.

    Where you'll be

Located in one of Spokane's upscale, private South Hill neighborhoods, the home sits on Browne’s Mountain. Because of the unique hillside elevation, this area boasts scenic views of the South Hill and the rolling hills of the Palouse. While it feels like a quiet mountain getaway, it is not a secluded location; you are minutes to South Hill restaurants, stores, and amenities and just 9 miles from the heart of downtown Spokane.

    A Natural Wildlife Haven
In this unique area where residential living meets untouched Pacific Northwest habitats, guests are often amazed by how many white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and birds they see on our property. Our property is a natural wildlife haven because Browne’s Mountain directly borders thousands of acres of protected public land. This continuous forest acts as a natural highway, allowing animals to move safely right up into the neighborhood. Offering the perfect blend of habitats, the mountain's mature pine trees, native berry bushes, and open grassy areas provide a highly nutritious, year-round buffet for native species.

We invite you to indulge in the tranquility of trees and nature at Browne's Mountain Retreat.

Quail Watch Habitat: Our property serves as a natural sanctuary and active habitat project for resident coveys of quail. We manage the property with zero pesticides, deliberate native cover, and undisturbed areas so these incredible birds can safely thrive year-round. Grab an early morning coffee, look out the expansive windows, and enjoy the slow, quiet experience of watching wildlife wander through.

    Outdoor Access & Trails
While the upper parts of the small mountain are residential, its ridges and foothills blend into the Dishman Hills Conservation Area for local day hiking.
    • Glenrose Trailhead: Offers beautiful loops with steady climbs and sweeping valley views.
    • The Rocks of Sharon: Features massive granite monoliths that are popular with local rock climbers and hikers looking for panoramic views of the Palouse.

Fun Fact: You'll be staying on an old ski hill. In 1933, Browne’s Mountain was home to Ski-Mor Resort, featuring Spokane’s very first rope-tow ski lift and an Olympic-sized ski jump. The jump's original launching platform sat directly on the ridge crest just a few hundred yards as the crow files from the property. The resort eventually closed as regional skiing shifted in favor of Mount Spokane resort development with more reliable snowfall, swapping the ski runs for the peaceful neighborhood and scenic area it is today.

Stunning Property with Gorgeous Views of Spokane

Situated on the top of a small mountain in Spokane, this property is wonderfully appointed with everything you'd need for an extended stay. Comfy linens, fully stocked kitchen with appliances, dishes and spices. Outside you'll see deer, birds and small animals as you sit and enjoy the jacuzzi, bbq and chairs. much needed peace

We woke up every morning and enjoyed coffee on the deck, wind blowing (cooler up at the property than in Spokane on a hill and trees all around-so lovely) watching the wildlife. We end our day on the deck watching the amazing sunsets and the sounds of they coyotes. This please is away from it all, which we were looking for.. The beds were comfortable, the rainshower upstairs-AMAZING. The two other showeres were okay. Loved the stocked kitchen-seriously home away from home. Top quality everywhere. We enjoyed her hot tub and the firepit for smores. We will coming back.. Thank you Karen for opening your lovely home to us. You won't regret booking her home-PROMISE
