Delicious breakfast was included in our stay with good service. Rooms were clean and bathroom and shower were excellent. Checked in before we got to the hotel and had no problems. Parking was a little tricky to find but a local helped us find free street parking just down a few hundred feet down from the hotel.
We found the self check-in a bit daunting and the church bells that chimed every hour on the hour we could have done without (not the hotel's fault!).
However, breakfast manager Sara was both friendly and helpful. The quality of the breakfast food and the service was 5 star.
It is self check in, with no staff.
Internet is spotty and I couldn't get checked in.
Luckily a person staying there, called a number that didn't work for me.
She got the code for a room key.
Next morning the proprietor was very apologetic and gave me a bottle of Chevas Regal as compensation.
Breakfast was included, and was marvelous. They prepared eggs, and had a great selection of breakfast food.
Modern and beautifully built.
Great quaint little hotel. Checking in late was hard, we had tried to contact the hotel a couple of times within business hours and weren’t able to connect or leave a message.
Rooms were decent sized for European standards, beds were really comfy, bath amenities
We loved St. Niklaus and its proximity to Zermatt. The hotel was great. Simple but stylish decoration. Very good breakfast and both the personal and local neighbors always ready to help and guide. They helped us even to quickly understand how to self check-in and where to park correctly. The hotel is, in general, very clean. Although unfortunately we had the bad impression that the toilet itself was not neat...like someone had used it before we checked in. That should be better controlled/cleaned. Also, the first night was relatively cold in the room. But after we asked Sara to make it warmer, she controlled that.
I would like to rate this property higher, but the check-in process and lack of any on-site staff made this stay much more stressful than I would like. You have to receive an email prior to arrival that you confirm your room and make payment and then they send a code to access your key to get to your room, and we rented three rooms but only got two emails (codes) which interstingly came 4 days apart even though all 3 rooms were rented at the same time. I tried emailing to get a 3rd email but didn't get any response, and trying to call the 2 phone numbers posted on-site to no avail (one would not connect and the other was just sent to Voicemail). We got very lucky and guessed the right code to access our 3rd room key. But then I wondered if the code was so simple to guess how hard would it be for someone else to access those keys as well??? Once we got into the rooms the stay was very good. Nice comfortable rooms - Good breakfast. Interestingly we got charged for the 3rd room at Breakfast after we stayed for the first night by the person who set-up the breakfast. That was the only time we saw on-site staff was during breakfast. I would strongly recommend that this hotel improve the check-in process and have an on-site staff person available at least during check-in hours so that the customers aren't as stressed as we were.
We primarily picked this place because it was the only remotely affordable option near Zermatt. The room however was very nice; the mattress was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on; there was a free tea and coffee maker; and the rate unexpectedly included breakfast.
Only check in was a bit of a hassle. It all worked out in the end, a lady living upstairs helped us get the key. We received a message with instructions on the day of departure, so presumably someone got their days mixed up. All's well that ends well. Would happily stay again.
Note that St Niklaus is a very quiet place at night. The bar opposite is probably your best and maybe only bet. It does some decently priced authentic food and is quite reasonably priced by Swiss standards.
Do not book this hotel in at least 5 days ahead of your arrival! Otherwise, you might be stuck in a middle of nowhere.
I've booked to a room two days before my arrivals via Hotel.com platform. There is no check-in instruction sent, I sent an email to the hotel asking check-in instruction, no reply. Eventually, when I got there, there was no instruction at the hotel to guide me to get my key. I couldn't have the room I booked, and had to find an alternative immediately. The hotel should never sell the booking platform this a room/service that they couldn't provide; if they need a 5 days ahead notice, this deal should not be valid within such period.
