  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. The Cigar Mountain House was fantastic! The attention to detail was what really made the difference. First and foremost, this was a BEAUTIFUL property and home. Breathtaking! There were large pool towels, touch lights, snacks, spices, coffee, snacks the sound system, comfy beds,and so much more!! Will definitely book again!

Gorgeous Private Property

WOW! What a fun house. We watched the sunset from the pool and turned around and watched the stars by the campfire. Really enjoyed the eye for detail in the construction of the house. You can even see the stars from your bed or while taking shower outside. We will definitely be back. PS. Thanks for letting us bring Miss Belle.
