Beware! Poor management, theft during our stay

First off, the location of this apartment is in an alley with almost no foot traffic, on the corner, which was a little unsettling and likely facilitated for the burglary that occurred during our stay. Entering the building main floor you notice dirt and trash. The day after we checked into the apartment, after spending our day out and about, we came home to find the front door of the apartment wide open (cannot be opened except with a key as there is no door knob), as well as an opened window. Numerous items were stolen, including a wallet of credit cards, fine jewelry and bags. Thing is, we hadn’t touched a window since we checked in, and they all appeared to be locked when we left. We immediately texted our Host, who nonchalantly apologized for the “inconvenience” and told us to go to the police station. When we asked for a call and raised concern that it may have been an inside job given the appearance that the windows were locked, but clearly the burglars knew that there was a specific window that was not (the shutter and the window only unlocked for that one window), there was no further response and we never received our requested phone call. We spent over two hours on the phone with VRBO asking for new accommodations- we were all traumatized- especially our four young children- but were denied. No one followed up with us from VRBO. Absolutely would not recommend.
