There was noone to get any information, we did not get a cancellation or a notification. "When we arrived and checked in, and entered the assigned room, we quickly realized that the room was never cleaned from previous guests. The beds were all tossed, towels all over the bathroom floor, to of bottles and garbage on the counter. Lucky for me, my wife speaks Japanese and we were able to read the management company which resettled us in the same unit on the 2nd floor within about 15 minutes. "Nice Japanese boutique hotel within walking distance to town. Single storey Japanese style cottages or rooms (new wing) surrounded by Japanese gardens and features. 4-5 private in door and outdoor onsens to choose from. Delicious breakfast and for those with 1/2 board, the set dinner was very good with free flow of sake, coffee/tea and orange juice. Coffee/tea and orange juice also available at the reception lobby throughout our stay. Will stay again if visiting Yufurin in near future"

"Very stylish and comfortable hotel. In room hot spring bath was cool. Maybe not worth booking one of the private rooftop baths if you have an in room bath. Parking was very easy if you’ve got a car - the outdoor parking lot is just before the hotel entrance. There’s a shopping center just across the road. "

"Yufuin is a really cute place for shopping that is also close to nature. My stay was very short but the Japanese style room was very comfy. The ryokan is near the train tracks so you will hear trains going by but it wasnt bothersome and they dont go on throughout the night or really early in the morning. The hosts are very nice and quiet. I have tattoos so it was really cool to have an onsen right at the ryokan because it can be a little tricky to find places that accept tattoos (they do exist...

"It is an unstaffed self checkin hostel. That is not the problem. The problem is that they give the same code to a ton of the rooms so someone came to check in to the room next to mine but unlocked MY ROOM. So the code next door and to my room was the same and it worked so now this random man knew he could get into my room. It is NOT secure or safe. Also they say you can check in with a person between 4-8 but that is not true. Did not feel safe in my room after knowing someone else could use...
