「 Faded Victorian excellence trying to satisfy today's tourists and not quite managing it (building is over 190 years old). Our double room was more like a single room. Buffet breakfasts Ok, dinners no more than average. Car parking difficult!」

「Room smelled pungently of mildew. When I told the staff they said they’d have to do a better job of cleaning. We left several days ago and everything in my suitcase, including all my clothes, still have that mildew smell. Quiet setting. Large rooms but had no way to air out except for a tiny window 18x8 that partially opened. Luckily it was cool weather. Pub was cute and food including breakfast was good.」

「The hotel, room, staff, food were all fabulous. From the welcome I received from the front door staff, who found the multi-tasking receptionist without being asked to moment I left the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The room was lovely, it was clean, airy and the coffee bags were an unexpected treat (I’d expected the usual coffee tubes) the room was nicely decorated and not the soulless reliable repeatable version the big chains provide. The hotel is recommended and my first choice next...

「Not the smartest hotel in the world but it makes up for this by the friendliness of the welcome with good sized clean and comfortable rooms that have an individuality not found in modern hotels. The barroom downstairs has a good selection of drinks and there are bar billiards tables. Just be aware there is no lift so stairs to rooms must be managed. After a good nights sleep breakfast awaits exactly as you ordered it」

「Hotel is in a good location, ample parking. It's a stately building fairly well maintained, though the elevator access on floor 1 is hindered by the carpeting that restricts the door from opening. Yes you have to manually open the door to access the 50 + year old elevator and make sure it doesnt swallow any body part when the door closes, very cool. The food in the attached restaurant/ pub was good, though the service was hindered by only 1 person doing everything, hotel check in and restaurant...
