"Beautiful hotel , really kid friendly, staff was amazing"

"Hotel was okay, but it didn’t meet my expectations given the price point setting and reputation. Service was inconsistent. While some staff members were friendly, overall interactions were not warm across the front desk, bar, and restaurant. The service also had a different feel from the very accommodating, welcoming interactions I’ve experienced at other hotels in the area and the Dominican Republic. At the beach, service felt particularly inattentive. We spent time seated there and no one came over to check if we wanted to order anything. One interaction in particular stood out. I went to the bar to order two piña coladas and then sat at a table in the common area by the bar to enjoy them. The space was mostly empty, with several empty large tables. A waiter approached and told us we couldn’t sit there because we were only two people. I explained that we were just finishing our drinks and would happily move if the table was needed, but he responded with visible attitude, rolled his eyes, and walked away. It felt unnecessarily rude and left a negative impression. Breakfast was very good, with lots of tasty options. The room was just okay—clean, but somewhat small and a bit cramped for the price. There’s also no door on the shower, which faces the bedroom and can feel awkward if you’re not traveling with a significant other. The beach setup was also somewhat limited, with only a few loungers on the sand, which didn’t seem sufficient for the number of guests. "

"Well the property is really close to paradise , cause the mountain and the beach .the bungalows have cocaroches and no hot waters runnig good , they're staff is young and no too professional .look and feel like short staff on the buffet , from my point just training and costumer service class for tree months and everything going to be 5 start do not forget the roaches on the bungalows "

"This is by far the BEST hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my ENTIRE life. You are welcomed by warm, nice staff who look actually delighted to work there and wanting to ensure your stay is enjoyable. They go out of their way to help, give you recommendations, ask about your day / get to know you more, and do it all with a warm smile on their face! The place is STUNNING! Whoever designed the place did a fantastic job. The architecture, art, and style of the hotel is simply breathtaking. The rooms are so comfortable cozy and cold! Highly recommend treating yourself to the room with the private patio and tub. My partner and I had an incredible, relaxing, and fun time here — CANT WAIT TO COME BACK TO PARADISE!"

"This stay completely ruined our trip. From the moment we arrived, everything was disorganized. The parking was locked, there were no signs or staff, and reception was empty. We found a staff member in the restaurant after ~20 minutes. Check-in took about 30 minutes, and only at the end we were told it starts at 3:00 PM (it was 2:30 PM). This could have been said immediately. The room had serious issues: • windows don’t lock • the safe doesn’t work (no lock) • TV not properly installed • strong chemical smell • poor cleanliness (dead mosquito, wet toilet seat) We asked to fix the windows, but were told none of the rooms have locking windows — this is considered “normal.” The safe issue was “solved” by giving us a separate lock with a ~$200 penalty if lost. Safety is clearly not a priority. Staff kept saying “nothing happens here,” which is not acceptable. At one point our car was blocked. I went to the restaurant (no one at reception), but the music was extremely loud. Even after asking to lower it, I still had to raise my voice to communicate, which was taken negatively. Staff response was unprofessional. The owner interrupted, didn’t listen, and suggested we take a refund and leave instead of fixing anything. We stayed only because it was Semana Santa and no alternatives were available. The only positive was the restaurant — good food, especially mangú. Conclusion: Does not meet basic standards of safety, organization, or service. Not recommended."

Dining: Food quality is impressive for the price point. The buffet is well-organized, and the à la carte options—specifically the Greek and Rodizio restaurants—provide a high-end culinary experience. Amenities & Staff: The staff across all departments (drivers, servers, and entertainment) are supportive and professional. The beach at Portillo remains a top-tier feature for its calm, pristine waters. Areas for Improvement: The rooms are the primary drawback; they are functional (hot water and comfortable beds) but look dated and are prone to maintenance issues like AC leaks. Additionally, guests should be aware that on-site convenience stores carry high markups. Verdict: Highly recommended for families or groups seeking a cost-effective, high-service escape in Samaná, provided you prioritize amenities and location over modern room decor."

"pool and view excellent but we couldn't use one of the rooms because there was a bad smell coming from it, no hot water and air conditioning need to be service, very dangerous going up the hill when dark because there's no lights on the way."

"The villa is a little piece of paradise everything u need is there. The pool is clean and so restful to sit at and hear the birds . The veranda is where we spent a lot of time just relaxing . Everything is a short walk away so many restaurants to choose from many overlooking the ocean. The staff r there at anytime u need them and very helpful . All the seafood u want fresh every morning . Our host so kind and helpfulCan’t wait to return"
